=====================
Hello Thom,

On Tuesday December 04 2007 07:39, you wrote to me:

By writing down my observartions I *am* documenting them am I not?

But obviously that is not good enough. Some old fart with 40+ years of
experience writing it down here is no good. What he wants is a reference to
what some other old fart has written in the ARRL handbook or some similar "work
of authority". Because what old farts write in the ARRL handbook is authority.
What they write here is just eh ... ramblings of an old fart.

Irony has it that I did my share of creating "authority". I contributed several
chapters of what can be considered the Dutch equivalent of the ARRTL handbook.
1980 issue or so if memory serves me right. Members of the Dutch ham communinty
do not usually challenge me on these kind of issues. Especially not the young
ones.

To be challenged by a relatively new member of the US ham community is .. eh..
refreshing. ;-)

MvdV>> away the signal of a 100 Watt TX from any decent RX standing

TL> But apparently "all" of us don't know that.

So it would seem. He will learn. Eventually...

TL> It's very much like the folks that tell us certain antennae will not
TL> work...and in the real world we may find that "any antenna is better
 TL> than no antenna".

True. All antennas "work". Some however work better than others, And then some
hardly work better than a dummyload. ;-)

Reminds me of that fox hunt where someone had the bright idea to put the
antenna on the one side of a canal and the TX on the other. The rules at the
time were that the hunters had to pinpoint the TX, not the antenna. TX and
antenna were connected with 100 meters of RG58. At 145 MHz..

Well, the starting point was some 10 km away and we all had all had a "little
bit" of a problem with the first 9.9 km. After that it was a piece of cake. ;-)

Cheers, Michiel
