Ärende: korean eats
===================
Hey Michael!
->
-> HN> We have a very (VERY) large Korean Community here so there are lots
-> HN> and lots of Korean eating places that are very good. I took Michael to
-> HN> one of my fav's on his last trip out here.
->
-> And very nice it was. Good food, efficient service, decent prices,
-> okay, or is that obee, beer. Odd name, Soon Yi Allen Number Two
-> or something. The only major quibble I had was that the pork was
-> too lean! Perhaps I am used to lower class joints.
->
That's the place alright..still one of my favs when I go "korean" which
usually means Annie's not along for the meal (grin). I really do want to go
back to the buffet though!
-> =
->
-> HN> While Anne and I both enjoy fine dining, our normal dining experiences
-> HN> usually costs less than$40 for the two of us for the entire meal plus
-> HN> tip. So $20.99 each is a bit pr icier than we usually go...but not
->  HN> extraordinarily so.
->
-> Our east coast big city prices are high by comparison: I'm lucky
-> to get out for $40 a person most places.
->
When we go for a full dining experience we fit in that category as well. Most
of our dining out however is places like the Ram where we get a cobb salad
for $10 or so and iced tea.. .or a burger for $10 or so and tea. Or to the
Engine house #9 for pretty much the same fare. Stadium Bistro on the other
hand will get into our wallet to a much greater depth as well many of the
place we like in Seattle.

-> Yesterday I had an interesting meal with my friend Joel -
-> he was helping me get rid of the last of my stuff, and
-> as he and his wife have been helpful and good friends
-> and have had me over for dinner a hundred times, I took
-> him to the best place I know of on the north shore -
-> Zafferano, in Orient Heights. We were the only table in
-> the joint all evening, and the bread that came in its
-> elegant spiral holder was yesterday's, ah well. I always
-> get the trofeo di melanzane, the eggplant-cheese tower in
-> tomato cream, to split, and that's what we did. Yesterday's
-> bread went well with. I gave Joel all the cheese.
->
Is the restaurant going downhill and losing partonage or was it just a
strange "off" day?

-> I ordered the Zonin Pinot Grigio 05, a thinnish wine,
-> slightly citrusy, slightly minerally, not too interesting
-> by itself and beaten up by the tomato cream sauce of the
-> appetizer, but as it turns out okay with the main courses.
->
-> Joel, who doesn't eat meat in restaurants, had the special
-> mushroom risotto, which was absolutely wonderful, better
-> than mine. The mushrooms were mostly the tame wild ones
-> you get - shiitake and oyster - but that was made up for
-> with great vast lashings of truffle oil. My veal with
-> mushrooms in white wine was also good, though the mushrooms
-> were the same ones as in his risotto. A salad came with,
-> but whose it was is open to debate. It was at Joel's left
-> and my right, so I figured it was his; he thought it was
-> mine (this is what happens when two guys fight over a salad),
-> so we split it. Fresh greens, good balsamic, good olive oil.
->
Yummmmm mushroom risotto with truffle oil! sounds gooooooood! I'll bet that
risotto would have gone well over some crispy pork !

-> For dessert, Chardonnay di Nonnino, a light golden grappa
-> from Jacopo Poli (or so the proprietor said). Nice tropical
-> fruit, a bit of leather, perhaps a lesser effort but still
-> attractive.
->
I thought Chardonneay's were dry? and Sauternes are sweet?

->
-> And then on to South Station, where my credit card did work,
-> and I was on the 9:45 to Washington, biz class for $41 extra.
-> I hiked up to the biz class car and plopped down in the
-> rather spare seat. The conductor came by and evicted me,
-> saying that in fact even though it said business class, the
-> car was outfitted in coach, and would I please move to the
-> club car, where I found a fat seat with good pitch and good
-> recline in a 2+1 configuration. A Courvoisier and a half a
-> Benadryl and I was in the land of nod, from 128 all the way
-> to Baltimore, 8 solid hours and 15 stops. Oh, by the way,
-> despite its being a fat seat with good pitch and good recline
-> and with calf and foot rests, it was probably the most
-> uncomfortable public trans seat I've sat on in a long time.
-> I don't know, its bulges and creases were in just the wrongest
-> possible places for my body.

As we get older, those bulges in our body become more sensitive to being
missmatched with the bulges in the seats!
