============
Hi Carol,

CS> I was looking at some cute ones for jarring jams and things. I could
CS> reuse them when the time comes to make jams next year.

RH> Sounds like a winner to me.

CS> I'm still thinking but the baggies are fine. Most of my spices are
CS> replicated now so only rarely do I reach for something and not find

Whichever works best for you. I've got my spices pretty well in order
now. I've got to get more basil and garlic powder as I just about used
them up yesterday. I made a big pot of marinara sauce--started at about
6 quarts and finished reduced by about a third. Used some today to make
up several small lasagnes and the rest boxed in pint containers for
freezer fodder.

CS> Less weight to pay for was in my mind! That and the box didnt fit the
CS> jars well but the baggies were perfect.

RH> Smart thinking; some folks would have just looked for a bigger box.

CS> Dumb folks, jars are cheap! You accumulate them no matter what unless
CS> you toss them out anyways.

Yes, you and I are in that mind set but other who don't move as often
tend to accumulate jars and such like. I keep a few (for fridge stock,
grease jar, etc) but most hit the recycle bag.

RH> Feeling like you're back in Japan? Has Charlotte readjusted to living
RH> in the States again? It usually doesn't take long for kids to settle

CS> She's settled and seems to be very popular with the other girls and
CS> boys! They arent used to strong minded fellow age mates who just say
CS> some things are stupid even if 'popular' and won't play dumb about it.
CS> I thought that might make her unpopular but it's going in the
CS> reverse. (I'm not too worried about popular but it's nice to be
 CS> accepted).

Sounds like she's settling in pretty well. It probably helps that it's
not an entirely new set of class mates as she knew some of them before
going to Japan.

CS> I think I may have seen one of those places on Route58 out near the
CS> ocean front. (I got turned around heading for Asia Market off London
CS> Bridge road and went the wrong way so showed Charlotte the beach for a
 CS> few moments.)

RH> How does the beach there differ from the one in Japan?

CS> A beach is a beach. The nearby ones in Japan didnt have much white
CS> sand and the Virginia Beach waterfront has loads as a tourist place
CS> (possibly they bring it in on trucks now and again, dunno).

I've seen big wide white beaches and small narrow rocky beaches; each is
unique unto it'self.  We were spoiled by the clear ocean waters in HI;
here on the east coast it's grey/green and grubby.

CS> Yes, showed her a durian at the Asian Market and was very tempted to
CS> get a cake of it frozen. I decided not to for the moment as Charlotte
CS> may not like it and I forgot to ask Don if he likes it. (He doesnt).

RH> Good thing you didn't get a whole one. We'd probably go for a small
RH> bit for our initial try; have to do it one of these days.

CS> Naw, he's tried it before. He doesnt like it.

CS> Too bad we live so far away. It would be funny to do a combined
 CS> retirement!

RH> That would be fun; Steve has gone to a number of Army ones and they
RH> are cut & dried boring. The Navy one was fun.

CS> We tend to a few little fun tricks!

Maybe we can at least participate in each other's. Depends on how soon
after we retire that we leave the area (know we will have to be out of
post housing ASAP).

Catch you later,
Ruth
