CS> Saw a scarey note on Michael's father 'palsied talk' but nothing more
CS> yet. I hope he's ok. I'm about 3 weeks behind on anything not sent to
 CS> my own name.

GJ> No problems with Michael's father; I will let Michael fill people in
GJ> on his own scary experience...

I'll catch up to it or find out eventually. Good to know on his Dad.

GJ> At present we have a glut of small, sweet, seedless mandarins, selling
GJ> at $1.60/kg. My youngest grand-daughter, who has just turned 2, is
GJ> addicted to them. Fortunately she has learned to peel them herself,
GJ> which relieves the pressure on her father. It also keeps her happily
GJ> amused for hours.

Good for that eh? Coolness. Safer than grapes too at that age.

CS> i actually have mild chill bumps when the fan hits me. I'm sure you

GJ> Sounds like you have an oscillating fan. That is the usual in the
GJ> Philippines, but in Darwin and the government houses we lived in in
GJ> PNG the normal is ceiling fans. In the tropics I sleep best with just
GJ> a sheet over me, and the ceiling fan on lowest speed.

Oscillating yes. At home in VB, we have a ceiling fan in the living room and
master bedroom. Both are great energy savers.

GJ> higher temperature than pine wood.
CS> Oh I am sorry. Until I saw this, I didnt realize I didnt define these
CS> well. I didnt mean the big cooking wood spoons, but the small eating
CS> ones. Shaped and sized much like you'd use at dinner for your own
CS> plate. They are preferred for eating 'rice porridge' (congee/juk) as
CS> there is not even the faintest of metallic hint possible. They are
CS> smoothed and polished dark wood. One is a roundish bowl type and the
CS> other is more 'American leaf shape'.

GJ> I am deeply mortified! You have found something I have never seen or
GJ> used! I am familiar with the usual flat-bottomed Chinese plastic or
GJ> China soup spoons, but not wooden.

Well, these 2 are just samples but one is a standard USA spoon shape (just
thicker) and the other is closer to a rounder bowl but not deep as in the
china ones. I got used to them in Japan at restraunts and now that i think of
it, havent seen them much elsewhere.

GJ> I agree that food would taste different and probably better from
GJ> non-metallic spoons, so now I will have to search around some of the
GJ> better Asian supermarkets here to look for them.

They work well! Highly polished, they arent 'splintery' at all.

CS> problem with spoons and have 15 forks but maybe 6 spoons. Gee, I know
CS> I bought them in even amounts but... That or them dang forks are
CS> breeding in the dark of my china cabinet! Humm. Maybe they are eating
CS> the spoons and using them as breeding material!

GJ> You have that trouble too? My spoons have been gradually vanishing -
GJ> more rapidly at about the time my daughter and her family moved out
GJ> into their new house - but I have dozens of forks. Perhaps the spoons
GJ> are mutating; have you thought of that? Rather than pay $2 each for
GJ> snazzy new spoons, I bought some at 20 cents from the local op shop.

Maybe they are mutating? Could be! If so, new ones of wood will fix that
(unless one day I open the drawer and find wood forks!).
                                       xxcarol
