Very good wonder and very good question.  I'm with you on both.  And for
those that are allergic to the gelatin, there are tablet formulations,
although those are even more likely to have the other ingredients as
binders...  There's probably nothing that EVERYbody would be safe with,
allergies being what they are...  but it would be nice if there were at
least some workable, well-thought-out options...

Not everybody has your capacity... ;)  Richard might, although I doubt
he'd be going for the tequila... There's a memorable story I sometimes
tell of a time when we were in college.  We had a friend who prided
himself on his capacity, particularly in drinking beer.  So he thought
it fun to match with others whom he thought he could easily out-drink. 
One evening, he challenged Richard and another friend, and the four of
us went over to the RITskellar (campus drinking spot), I as the sober
observer, my distaste for beer being by this time well-known.  They were
drinking pitchers, and did indeed manage to consume quite a few.  As the
evening wore on, the challenger began to take on an air of disbelief, as
the other two were much the less for wear than he...  And finally, he
managed to "drink himself under the table", and Richard and Alan
continued to finish off the last pitcher (why waste perfectly good beer)
while discussing electrical schematics, and drawing them on the
available napkins.  What's more, in the morning, when all had sobered
up, the schematics were still viable ones... :)

Even when I'm drinking my single malts, I stop well before the floor...
but I'd guess you'd probably have a larger capacity than I there, too.
