That sounds like a really good price to me. Last time I looked they
were $3.49/lb which works out to $7.68/kg.

We've got cold and clear here. -29 C tonight. My friend Aura (she
used to post here sporadically in the past) who is visiting us from
New York City, is disappointed as the Northern Lights have not come
out since she arrived but the brilliant starlight almost makes up
for it. NYC has too much air pollution and ambient light for
effective stargazing there.

For New Year's Eve we are visiting friends on the edge of town who
raise racing huskies; they have over 30 dogs. They will have a tent
and a bonfire outside. Being Scottish they will also have bagpipes
at midnight to pipe in the new year. We do this every year but this
will be a new and different experience for Aura! The hosts are
excellent cooks and will have a good spread; plus many guests bring
a plate of something too. Aura plans to make up a traditional dish
that is popular throughout the Caribbean and the American South:
black eyed peas with pork and some kind of cabbage greens. The peas
represent coins, the fat pig prosperity and growth and the cabbage
cash... all good luck symbolsfor the year to come. She was irritated
that she couldn't buy collard greens here, but they are a southern
thing. I suggested kale as being close but she settled for regular
cabbage.
