Hi Carol,

CS> I have quite a few here now. BJ's had a 6 box unit of spirals (some
CS> plain, some mixed colors with spinach and carrot added) of which I
CS> have used up 1.5 boxes in the last 2 months. I also have a largish

Let's see--I've got shells, spirals, flat noodles, linguini (angel
hair), spaghetti, orzo, penne, lasagne and maybe some elbows on my
shelf. If we have pasta once a week, it may last a couple of months or
so.

CS> (umm, 3.5 inch by 2 inch) box of spagetti noodles mostly full, plus
CS> some alphabets for an alphabet soup, and a few stray other items like
 CS> yam noodles and udon.

I don't have the yam noodles or udon. (G) My pasta is whole wheat for
the most part, with a few whole wheat and combo products.

CS> This is possibly a years worth of pasta for us, at least for some of
 CS> the types.

Do you like pasta salad? I do but Steve doesn't so occaisionally I'll
cook up a few extra spirals or shells to make a small salad for me.

CS> Oh that does sound good! I love mint chocolate. I eat less per
CS> sitting than most would, but i like it well. I'd skip the vanilla and

CS> marshmellows and possibly add some rice crispies to the mix or rice
 CS> crispies and wheat-chex.

That sounds good but I don't want to buy a big box of cereal just for
the cup or so I'd need for the fudge. We generally buy the granola type
cereals that wouldn't work quite as well.

turnips

CS> Mom never made them that I can recall so they were a 'new to me thing'
CS> that I seem to recall trying once and not finding the charm of (due to

I had to eat them at my grandmother's for Thanksgiving dinner. Those and
the super sweet sweet potato casserole turned me off of the orange
vegetables for a long time. But, we bought a couple of small turnips the
other day at the comissary.

CS> not cooking them right) and only now am going back to. I dont know
CS> what the difference is with rutabegas. They seem just large turnips
 CS> to me?

A stronger flavor and the skin is usually waxed on the rutabegas is the
main difference I can recall.

(Later--just checked James Beard, an old reliable source for lots of
stuff. Rutabegas are a larger turnip with yellow "insides", vs the white
of smaller turnips. He reccommends peeling them, cutting into chunks
and boiling in salted water until fork tender as the main way to cook.
Then a couple of minor varients are given--one to add some cream,
another to add bacon bits before serving.)

 > Probably not, just giving you a hard time. Steve didn't do any PT on
 > our trip and said he'd gained a few pounds.

CS> Hehe well I've slipped up a bit too, because I can't workout. Up to
CS> 133lbs now but holding steady there. Military limit for me is 143 or
CS> 145 (I forget) but still well within it.

But then too, you're vertically challenged. (G)

 > MRIs

CS> In a fiasco, it turns out my Doc isnt a 'PCM' so couldnt make an
CS> appointment with her. They assigned me to another but she shows on
CS> the computer she isnt assigned to me either so... well, she got me the
CS> referral as needed and we'll work from there. Monday I can call for
CS> the spinal specialist appointment. Not sure how long it will be.

Hopefully you were successful today. It seems like a lot of running in
circles has been done vs your getting the treatment you need.

 > I got results yesterday. Inconclusive; the wire made it hard to get a
 > good image on the left side. Right side is fine. We meet with the
 > radiology oncologist tomorrow to set up 7.5 weeks of treatment.

CS> Ok! At least you have worked your way through the system! I'm still

I've had a couple of doctors (surgeon and radilogy, both military)
who've really gone to bat for me.

CS> trying here. All I can say for sure is everyone looks really *pissed*
CS> that it was ignored this long. Prognosis due to delay isnt all that
CS> good now. The neck alone shows a clear history from summer 2001, and
CS> no MRI until DEC 2007 (not even requested earlier). They can no
CS> longer fix the damage to the nerves to my right arm. It's been too
CS> long. What they arent sure of, if if they can fix the lower back
CS> still. First serious incident with it was 2003, then crops up
CS> increasingly from 2005 on and 2007 is really bad with repeat
CS> incidents every 2-3 months and no treatment or referrals for
CS> treatment. Just pain killers and muscle relaxants.

That is way too long. The best thing I can say is that it should raise
your disablity rating when you retire. But seriously, something should
have been done much earlier.

CS> Oh well. Lets see what happens.

Keep us posted.
