Steve was born in Albion, lived in Hulberton (about 3 miles west of
Holley), all west of Rochester. I was born and raised in the Catskills
but went to Houghton College.  We met in Rochester thru a mutual friend
who was pastor for the deaf at Bethel Assemblies of God Church.  On the
23rd of this month it'll be 36 years since we met, got married Sept. 20,
75.

Food related--the Catskills are known for, among other things, the
production of maple syrup.  Field trips in grade school usually included
at least one to a sugaring operation.  My parents may have tightened the
belt on other foods but always had real maple syrup for pancakes,
waffles, etc.  Except for a few times when we couldn't get any, we've
done likewise.  The past about 10 years (give or take) my younger
brother has sent some as part of his Christmas gift. We had an open half
gallon jug on hand when we packed out from Hawaii to come to Georgia.
No problem; we heated it to just under a boil and poured it into hot,
sterile pint jars and sealed them with a boiling water bath.

We don't miss the cold and shoveling snow.  Steve grew up with lake
effect snow but slightly warmer temperatures in winter.  I didn't get as
much snow where I lived but the temperature very often was in the below
zero range for mid to late December into January.  Ever hear snow
crunch? (G)
