   3. which came after Earl had announced that unless someone
      volunteered to become moderator he would shut the echo down;
   4. the fact that you, not Earl, were the one to moderate after a spam
       posting;

   Messages 2 and 3 are posted in another message.

  Oh???  Then how did you handle that case of a spam posting a while
  back?  Sure looks to me like Earl thought you had taken care of it.
  That sure looks like acting as a moderator to me.   Whether you
  communicated with the system where the message came from in netmail or
  email or by pigeon is irrelevant -- you took care of it (as a
  moderator should).
