Regents exams are made up the state of NY Education Dept.  The idea is that it
avoids testing of say a classroom or grade (or even entire school)  where the
teachers know the students capabilities and tests thusly in order to get "high
scores". Because the exams are made up by the state, they cover material in
depth and were (when I took them) difficult. I assume they still are as I  try
to keep up with the states' records of the scores reported.  Because you had no
idea what was going to be covered generally, you had to know it "all" and in
depth <grin>.

Going along with my education, it would be though.  You can't separate the two.

Some states in the USA are known for very poor educational standards.  Others
are way up there.  I've always felt it was directly related to how much money
parents put into the local budget for such things.  In NYS, while the lottery
is used for a bit of that, property taxes are considered "high" and there's a
good reason for that :)
