Ärende: CELEBRATION!

CS> Herman, I apologize for him although I can not control him. He's a
CS> very embarrasing part of the same country I come from. He does not
CS> and NEVER will speak for me.

CS> What we, the USA folks did, was a bad thing but the only exoneration

Shame on you. What we did was to save millions of lives and that means on
both sides. There's nothing bad about it. OTH, it wasn't anything to be
celebrating about, but the date is noteworthy to many Americans. I would
think that people should study their history a little closer if they think
we Americans are the worst there is when it came to killing innocent men,
women and children. On the contrary, the facts of what the Japanese did to
civilians only pales in comparison to what the Nazi did because that
history isn't as well known or taught worldwide. The Chinese haven't'
forgotten the millions of young women raped and murdered, their children
stabbed several times and left to die, only after they were forced to
watch their mother being raped by several Japanese soldiers before they
killed her.

To the Japanese soldiers, the Chinese were viewed as less than human and
the Chinese suffered as many atrocities as the Jews did. The Chinese
haven't forgotten and neither should anyone else who thinks their
countrymen are above these things. They aren't.

CS> They (general populace) didnt know it would poison the land and the
CS> people for generations to come. That was only learned later.

Only the scientists who worked on it knew and they were sworn to secrecey.

CS> When in another thread you see us talking about books, one is always
CS> read in school by American kids. It's a tale about the bombing and
CS> how horrific it was for the surivors. Normally presented around age
CS> 14 or 15 as it's considered too strong for the ones younger. One
CS> graphic image still sticks in my mind about a lady (one of many) who
CS> has burn marks all along her body inthe pattern of the flowers on her
CS> kimono because the dye made it work that way. Chilling.

You should have heard the story the survivor of rape by 15 different
Japanese soldiers. While several stood by and stabbed her with a bayonet
each took their turn with her. Of course that wasn't bad enough, she was
nearly to term with a pregnancy. She lamented about her aborted son,
murdered by those Japs, who would be in his sixties today.

CS> Kids in Sasebo dont get that book. They get a trip to Nagasaki
CS> instead. Gather the origional aim was to hit here but cloud cover
CS> made it hard so they hit Nagasaki as secondary target vice the major
CS> ship building facility I am at now.

All the targets chosen were for a military reason...there were factories
in Nagasaki who made Mitsubishi parts for the Japense Zeros. Ball bearings
I believe.

 HN>> Shame to you!!

CS> Indeed. With that message of his, I part any company with Frank. I
CS> am embarrased that he comes from my country.

You shouldn't be. You should be sad that he thought it a day of
celebration and nothing more. In his day, it was a day to celebrate. So
was and still is VJ day - a better day to celebrate the ending of the
Japanese atrocities in Asia. I'm a generation inbetween and I can say that
in my youth, hating Japs was encouraged by my elders. Of course, they were
quite aware of what was going on in Asia before they bombed Pearl, so I
understand why the younger generations don't have a clue about what
they're saying. Suffice to say that none of us are guilty for what our
ancestors did during their lifetime. (unless they're Dossche' or Vlists)
