Given the didactic nature of this form of debate, some personal
insults (whether real or perceived) are bound to happen.  Participants
should not be so thin-skinned as to get overly upset, although newbies
can be easily forgiven.  However, your point is well-said.

For those who enjoy flames, the only really appropriate forum
in fido is a designated flame echo.  And it appears that is exactly
what this echo has become.  Which I find sad and unfortunate.

But -

Please do not tar me and others who have been victimized by Ross
Cassell by putting us in the same boat as him.  While Björn Felten
does share some of the blame, he too was/is a victim.

I do not recognize Ross Cassell's authority, as he has none.
I do not recognize Janis Kracht's authority, as she has none.
I'll spare you the details.

Björn Felten should ditch Ross Cassell as his "co-moderator"
immediately, if he has not done so already.  Although there is
no need for Björn Felten to have a "co-moderator", it might not
be a bad idea for him to name somebody as a trainee.  He can
call that individual "assistant editor" whose only duty is to be
there in case he kicks the bucket.  And have as many "assistant
editors" as he wishes.  And then, if he ever decides to turn over
the reigns to somebody else, he would have several well-trained
assistant editors to choose from.  This would make for a very
smooth transition of power...

No so-called "gentleman's agreement" should exist in any fidonet
echo, or anywhere else in fidonet.  I suggest Björn Felten tear up
that "gentleman's agreement", or whatever he has to do to get rid
of it in cyberspace.  A simple public statement declaring said
agreement null and void should do it.

A simple nudge is usually all that is needed, no warning necessary.
The job of a moderator is to help facilitate debate, not hinder it.

Bans, regardless of length, should never be a part of a moderator's
repertoire.  Except for blatant cases of abuse and illegal activity,
which really goes without question.  And no warning needed in those
cases, as those are rare to begin with, the instrusions not wanted
by anybody (participants, moderators, and sysops alike).
