By not living in a place where it is rainy and cold. Good ole sunshine and
moderate temps 360 days a year, sunny southern California.

Yeah, one can eat just so many cherry pies.

There were all kinds of birds in Cal...lots more here in Texas. I hadn't
seen a Robin since I moved to Cal and it was nice to see that they're
still around when we moved to TX...lots of Dove and Sparrows, some Red
Winged blackbirds and of course the damned Grackles. I made it a habit to
shoot every Grackle that dares to approach the water that I supply for the
good birds. That little pond hosts a lot of summer birds needing a drink
in our hot weather.

Either that hornet was an aggresive type or he was able to detect the
adrenalyn rush when he came close to you. I stepped into a bee hive when I
was out hunting one time and only got stung by a bee that misread my
non-panic of his presence as an adrenlyn rush. The rest of the hive flew
around and buzzed me, but they dissapated when I didn't scare...
