    I'd really like to know what gumball machine you got your internet
  protocol programming class from!  For your information, I telnet'ed
  to my BinkP mailer using 24554 (eg. from the dos prompt uses:
telnet kingcoder.net 24554  

and the result was the following:

Pasting seems to have lost a few characters, or the message editor refuses to 
handle it, but you can see the information.  I have no idea where you expect 
to use FTP protocol to connect to a BINKP connection!  FTP uses several 
connections at the same time, and is quite different from a standard socket 
connection like BinkP and Telnet.  From a programming point of view, Telnet, 
POP3, SMTP, BINKP, etc are all setup the same way with different port numbers.
 Once you telnet into a POP3, SMTP, or BINKP connection, you merely type the
commands that the given protocol is expecting to simulate what would happen if
you was using the appropriate client.  Eg. POP3, you could use HELO or EHELO 
followed by your domain name, I think you use GET and a number, LIST, not 
really sure of all the commands.  It's been a long time since I did that.  
Look up open mailers on the internet and your bound to find the instructions 
for telnet'ing into a SMTP server to check if it's an open mailer or not 
(allows you to route mail through it w/o logging your IP address in the 
message).  BINKP is a fairly text only protocol, at least at the beginning to 
identify its self.  Try telnet'ing to your own binkp mailer using the port 
24554 before saying it's impossible!  Much like the Bible, you can't say that 
you can't do something until you've tried it.  If you keep a closed mind about
everything, you can't possibly expect to learn anything.  Oh that's right, you
don't need to learn anything, you already know nothing.  Anyway, the same 
works with any of the standard ports...  Just telneting into differnt 
protocols will look different. Eg:

BinkP         24554
Raw/IFCO      60179
Vmodem/telnet 60177

On my system, 60179 shows the banner message for BinkP, where it waits for the
double escape to go to the BBS (or 1), which at the present is not working 
because I couldn't get it to load maximus for some reason...  But I believe 
in between there, if you setup a netmodem on your computer, and then run 
binkley term or FrontDoor, you would most likely connect with it ....
