Only to a point. I've lived west of the Rockies at the same latitude as
your small lake in Montana and don't think the climate is any fun, summer
or winter. In Seattle, it rains more than the sun shines and when the sun
does come out, the climate seems cold due to evaporation. I know people
who've lived in Idaho and they're not that enderred to the area. Winter is
cold and wet just west of the Rockies too.

And then of course there are the boys from Montana who got their feet wet
in the US Navy while stationed in Long Beach or San Diego and refused to
return to Montana when their Navy tour was over. Warmth and sunshine were
more important to them than family, girlfriends and the cold climate of
home.

That's the kind of place where I grew up and have no remorse after being
away from it for the past 46 years. The only difference is that I fled the
cold winters and hot, humid summers of northern Illinois for Seattle and
then San Diego. The cold winter weather in Seattle was nearly as bad as
Illinois, just not as long-lasting.

I'd still be in San Diego, except for the fact that the cost of living in
a state that is about to go belly up, gets higher and higher every year.
With the liberals in charge, every penny they can squeeze out of their
citizens the happier they are. With property taxes, sales taxes, vehicle
registration fees going sky high, yearly smog checks with stringent
enforcement of 'above and beyond' emissions laws, and income taxes too, I
prefer a place that doesn't have any of that.

There is no income tax in Texas, the property taxes are frozen at the same
level they were when you turn 65 years of age, there is no exorbitant
vehicle fees to contend with, no mandatory vehicle emission checks and the
cost of living is so much cheaper here, with locally provided produce,
dairy and Texas beef available; everything that could be found in
California, without paying sky high prices for it.

I'd love it if the summer temps here were more like San Diego's, but you
can't have everything. And every once in a while, winter nites get down to
the high 30s (F not C) and even a flurry of snow. Not to worry though, as
the snow melts with the morning sun and the day warms up just like it was
San Diego. We look forward to Spring and Fall days as those are the best
time of year in Texas...Meanwhile, Roger Nelson is experiencing hurricane
weather while any moisture that was in Texas is drawn into the hurricane
and dropped on his head.

In about two more weeks, the daily temps will be in the mid to high 80s
and we can enjoy the outdoors again.
