Depends on where you read, and so by your count a dozen.
Those people enjoy and appreciate those echoes.  Who cares?
The carriers of those echoes obviously aren't worried about
numbers, they provide content those folks enjoy, and that's
good enough for me, good enough for them.  IT's not your
place or mine to judge what's worthwhile to them.

Because I do care to have the ability quickly to view
anything I think might be of interest to me in the
newsletter, both the "official" version and the other.
Instead of configuring two different file echoes and going
through that game it's as easy to read the echo.  WEre
FIdonews once again unified as one publication, as it should be, on this we
agree, I'd probably carry the file echo and
call it even.

The mailing list would be via invitation only.  The party
who's considering administering the list is also a
professional in the field, and a Fido sysop.  IN a couple of cases invitees are
former FIdonet users who left when the
content they had an interest in left.  They aprticipate in
usenet and email fora, but often find themselves frustrated
by various web forums.  They like the ease of use provided
by their nntp and mail software of choice, the ability to
independently manage threads locally, etc.

Right!  They'll use a forum which they can access and enjoy.

IF the place where you looked at live_audio goes back far
enough you probably noted a post I made in that echo last
Christmastime, aimed at the amateurs putting on
presentations.  THat post dealt mainly with safety concerns. I have no idea how
many people  actually read that post but
did not comment.  But, if that post helped one person who is a faculty sponsor
for such a presentation, or a church
leader who was doing similar to rethink something in the
name of safety, then it was worth posting.  That was one or
more fewer visits to emergency rooms or emergency services
call outs.  THat's good enough for me.  IT was good enough
for them they took the time to read it, even if they didn't
comment by a post in the echo.  Some of my favorite usenet
forums might average posts in the single digit range over a
month, but I stay connected to those groups because the
quality of those few posts is high.  Otoh, some forums I
read where the quantity is in the realm of hundreds of
messages in a month I find myself filtering heavily, as the
quality of many of those posts is of no value whatsoever.
But, I stay linked for those few gems of information and
education that do come along there.  Value, my friend, is
often wehre you find it, but you have to be looking.

IF otoh, you're looking for the purpose of sniping at
everything that doesn't fit your narrow view or the
furtherance of your grudge, you'll often find what you're
looking for as well. IT's sort of like the old adage
"whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're
right."  You participate in FIdonet for one reason only, so
that you can be the last man standing.  PRetty sad
imho.
