why does a domain need to be listed? can you not perform the same f.n.z
conversion and try that in the same way that much FTN software has done for
years? what do you do when you see a domain listed? 

for the f.n.z dns domain format, the binkd guys have set up binkp.net since
fidonet.net got lost some time back... so for example, your domain would be
f44.n2448.z2.binkd.net for your 2:2448/44 fidonet address... not all systems
use this capability, though... so they list a domain in the nodelist... they
don't have to... they could easily have the DNS zone segment for their f.n.z
zone use a CNAME for their domain in the DNS and not publish anything in the
nodelist... i use the CNAME and point it to my domain and i have published it
in the nodelist so i'm hitting both sides when i don't really have to...

i suspect that may be because routed stuff has been broken for a long time and
no one has chased it down... instead they have taken the easy way out and taken
the steps necessary to go direct or as direct as possible... i saw where routed
netmail from you to another texan passed thru here the other day... i saw it in
my ontrack logs while i was looking for something else... who's system
delivered it? i'm not yet sure and doubt that i'll go digging and coorelating
the logs to find out... BUT there's a lot of direct netmail that also goes
unanswered and quite possibly unread... i know of a lot of systems that don't
put the netmail into the bbs for the users and so those sysops that only use
their bbs miss out on it, too... what happens to that netmail is anyone's
guess... if it is read and replied to, the replies don't seem to be getting
out...

this is why the phone number is one of the items requested in the applications
for node number and services that i handle ;)

that's one thing but what to do if they simply don't respond to netmail?
there's no difference and no way to know, really... think about it... if they
don't respond to netmail, routed or direct, what does it matter if they have a
point or pvt node?
