DS> Thanks for the references, but they do not satisfy the request. They
DS> describe binkp in excruciating technical detail for the software
 DS> developer.

MVDV> Developers are the primary audience for he FTSC documents...

Exactly my point. I am asking for some guidance for the novice, and the
FTSC documents are not it.

MVDV> Just as *Cs are the primary audiance for the nodelist epilogue.

Also not novices just getting started, or trying to understand how they
might use other protocols.

DS> They would mean very little to the novice who is trying to
DS> figure out how he or she should use binkp on his system.

MVDV> For that there are the manuals of the various binkp implementations.

DS>> What systems use BINKP? etc.

MVDV> The ones listed with an IBN flag in the nodelist?

The nodelist does not mention the software that is being used.

DS> Educating a user from scratch is doable by someone who knows the
DS> technology and who has a basic understanding of what new sysops need
 DS> to know.

MVDV> If you think it is doable, why don't YOU do it?

Because I do not know enough to do it.

DS>> Similarly for IFC, ITN, IVM, IFT, ITX, IUC, IMI, ISE, INA.

 MVDV>> http://www.ftsc.org/docs/fts-1026.001

 MVDV>> Its is all there.

DS> Sorry, but none of those flags are listed in that document.

 MVDV> Sorry, wrong link

 MVDV> fts-1025 for SEAT.

That helped, and so did fts-1024 -- but neither of them truly satisfy
what I am thinking about as an introductory tutorial.

MVDV> I am sure you can find more at the FTSC site.

DS> For example consider the flag ITX defined in FTS-5001 as TransX
DS> encoding for email tunneling with receipts enabled.

DS> BUT, the document does not define either of the terms "TransX
DS> encoding" or "email tunneling". In fact, it never mentions them
DS> anyplace other than in defining the flag ITX. It would be useful to
DS> know what that flag means and how someone might implement them.

 MVDV> So write the article...

How can I write such an article when all I know about it is what is in
the nodelist, or what I can glean from a couple of FTS documents.

For example -- you have my email address. Could you send me a direct
netmail via email tunneling of some sort? Can my Eudora email program
handle it, or would I have to get some other program -- and if so, what
program?

I know that I can use my Eudora to send QWK packets to my users and to
receive REP packets from them and process those replies into my Squish
data base through Maximus.
