You forget that every thing irradiates heat. For instance, one square meter of
black earth under the Sun rays irradiates back about 1 kilowatt of heat. This
heat warms the atmosphere and makes a cozy climate.

The same situation is with human body. Every human irradiates about 300 watts
of heat energy. If a person wears a metal clothes (or wear nothing ;) it
irradiates his heat and feels cold. Clothes hold the heat inside, that's why we
wear clothes and space suits.

Atmosphere has its own temperature, above zero. It means, it heats us. The
atmosphere molecules provide us with some energy. Our atmosphere is like a
blanket, too. But in space vacuum, we have not such a heat source. That's why
the surface temperature of the dark side of the Moon becomes very cold very
quickly.

In short, a space suit is a compromise. It must save our own heat, when we are
in the dark; it must reflect the hot Sun rays when we are in the light. In view
of the fact that it is difficult to hide from the Sun in orbit, the cooling
problem is more important for cosmonauts than heating one. But the more we from
the Sun the weaker it shines. It is hardly possible to be overheated at the
Mars orbit, for instance.

The Earth is  not a good place for digging so deep. But it is easy to realize
that many planets in the Universe have the evolution of life connected with the
interior of planets. Humans cannot dig deep - it's too hot inside the Earth,
but another matter Moon or Mars - inside them there is a comfortable
temperature! The low density of Moon and Mars means that inside there are a lot
of water, and therefore, there are hollows filled with warm water or
atmosphere. Atmosphere can we at a planet of any size, if we have there
materials that provide gases. Take, for instance, Saturn's Titan - it is small
to have such a dense atmosphere (three time denser than the Earth's one), but
it has it. It means that it has a lot of materials that support the Titan's
atmosphere. The similar situation is on Moon or Mars. Cold crust of these
planets is like a shell that preserve the atmosphere born inside.
