Ärende: time in golded
======================
Hello Michael.

03 Apr 06 21:59, you wrote to me:

 MH> Yes.

I am reluctant to try the DOS version. You know the reason of my "late
conversion" to Golded is that I never got the DOS version to work properly on
my system. reading messages was ok, bu the moment I tried to write a message,
it blew up in my face. It completely crashed my system. Hard, very hard. Up to
the point of setting my real time clock to a date far in thr future with tyhe
result of deleting all of my message base...

Now that could have had something to do with the fact that I used Novell Dos. I
suspect Golded uses some undocumented system calls that do not work on Novell
DOS. That was years ago and I finally took the step to give the Windows version
a try.

I have not yet noted any off behaviour oif this version of golded other than
the problems with the single and double quote characters. if that is the ony
problem, I can live with it.

I have tried a lot of editors over the years and they ALL had problems. I'll
save you the horror stories, but believe me those problems were far more
Serious than having to type a single quoTe as ALT-NUM-039.

Any experience with win2000?

although Golded does not give problems so far, I *do* have problems with
Console applications in general. I have two other command windows open. One
runs Irex, the other runs InterMail. Irex is no problem and so is InterMail
when it is waiting for a call or an event. But as soon as either one shells out
to Fmail, OT-Track or any other one of the half a dozen programmes that are
called in the line of duty for FidoNet, they start eating up nearly all the
processor time. The mouse cursor and the keyboard freeze irratically, it is
quit annoying. It does not seem to make any difference if the application
running is a DOS programme or a native Windows programme. It gets worse the
longer the machine is up. After a reboot it gets better, only to degrade after
a day or two. Even the updating of the software clock is halted it seems.

Is this one of the aspects of the poor performAnce of the console subsystem in
win98?

Michiel
