Ärende: Re: AT&T says they can't provide DSL?!?!?
=================================================
From: Ellen K. <72322.1016@compuserve.com>

Thanks very much for the info. Once again I am in awe of the help available
here. :)

I got an email from AT&T saying a person has to live within 3 miles of a
central office, so I requested the address of the office considered central for
me. No reply yet, but based on the photos you sent I think at least TWO of
them are probably within 3 miles.

The dslextreme deal looks pretty good except as you mentioned the FAQ says:

"Can I connect more than one computer to my DSL service / Can I use a router?

• Static connections can connect more than one computer using a third party
router.
• Dynamic / Dynamic-1 connections are designed and supported for only single
connection. If a customer would like to install a third party
router they may do so, but this is not supported. The DSL modem that the
customer is using must be configured in bridge mode and the third
party router must support dynamic connections. For more information on switch
your LinkMax modem to bridge mode please go
to:http://www2.dslextreme.com/KB/article.aspx?id=10398&cNode=2K7B6U
• Dynamic-20 connections allow up to 20 computers when used with a switch or a
hub.

** We do not offer help with configuring routers or network support. If
you use a Router/Hub/ Switch, you will need to disconnect it to get help from
our support department."

So if I went with them I would have to get a separate router and attach it to
the modem? Or could I just use a combo one? If attaching the router to the
modem, is that fairly straightforward?
