Maybe, but imho this was a "bolt from the blue" which came
out of nowhere at the last minute.  Even ARlen Specter was
asking some tough questions of MR. Thomas iirc.  Suddenly,
when things were winding down we got this circus.
I had some concerns during the real substantive part of the
hearing with some of THOmas's evasions on tough questions,
alluding to "natural law" etc. instead of answering the
questions more fully.

True, and I"m not totally insensitive to such issues.  FOr a variety of reasons
that would take too much explanation for
a public echo I seem to have a greater percentage of female
friends who were sexually abused or exploited as children.
SOmeone being victimized as HIll alleges would have been as
poised and together as she sounded during those hearings,
and wouldn't have waited until the last possible minute to
come forward.

Any practiced liar can control the indicators enough to pass a polygraph.  THis
is one reason that polygraph evidence is
so controversial.  A fellow I"d do some contract work for
occasionally back in the '70's was a polygraph operator in
his day job.  HE always told me that a pathological liar can pass those things
with flying colors.  OToh he told me that
a person, even though telling the truth who was off balance
and nervous would fail.

A good number of course.  YEt his beliefs in success of a
person on his or her merits were never shaken by that.  THis was part of his
mistrust of affirmative action programs, but he carried it to an extreme imho.
I myself am divded on the question of affirmative action
programs, so could understand  his reluctance to tinker with such things but
...

Had he truly been willing to stick with his anti affirmative action principles
I could have understood that.
