Yes i found it in my package manager. I will have do some more reading 
on the subject although i can't see myself needing it for a while.

I've never used a seperate /boot partition as i have never seen the point.

Eeek! Never let the install do a default partitioning. Even though
i seldom use Windows i always set it up first. I find it easier
to jostle the Linux partitions around once Win has been sorted out.

I bought an 80 gig hard drive a month or so ago and just for the
fun of it i let Mandriva choose the partitioning. It was going
to have one "/" partition of about 10 gig and a massive /home
partition of 70 gig. Yea right. ;) As much use a concrete parachute.

Hmm. I've used VNC and perhaps it's not the same but if you where
running Linux on the fully partitioned machine you couldn't
umount the disk because the client would need it. I think however
you are probably talking about the RAID devices so i can't help
you there.

By hardware you mean RAID? Im not sure if the remote box is using
XP. I presume RAID devices don't have mount points.

Just to help me under stand whats going on could you 
cat /proc/partitions for me?

Am i right you are using Fidora? Are going to be happy with this machine
the way it is? You should have a GUI backup facilty some where. IMHO
you should back up and dump the back up on a remote. Then start again.

There is a lot to learn with Linux and mistakes happen. If you carry
on with this setup it's going to be harder and harder to rebuild.

I know it's a tough lesson to learn. :( You don't need a "/boot" because
it is included in "/" and so is "/root", "/etc", "/usr", as are all
the core directories needed for booting. On my bloated system the 
core directories don't add up to 6 gig, so 10 gig or more should
do for your "/" partition. Depending on your user base "/home" 
needn't be to big on my system it is only using 56 Meg on a 2 Gig
partition. The next partition is "/local". This is used by all the
stuff you download and install that doesn't come with your distro.
On my system it is using 256 Meg of a 5 Gig partition. Next is 
"/opt". This backs up everything that i deem necessary for a worry 
free life and on my system it is only using just over 2 Gig. Last
of course is swap. There is a good argument for having a seperate
"/" and "/usr" partition but i won't go into it now.

If you tell me how much disk Linux can have i will give you
a reasonable partitioning regime for it. I am not an expert and
at a later date you may decide you have a better way. However
i have learned through hours of trial an error to come up with
a reasonable way of doing things. I can almost guarantee you will not
be happy with the way things are now. If you want to talk to me 
privately i will give you my email address and explain exactly why
