    Hello Jeff, nice talking to you !

        I am in a quandry. I got this 10+ year old Thinkpad going
   fine, it has Win95 so far on it and I would like this kept, for old
   time sake.

        I got a Xircom NIC in a slot and got all the drivers
   operating, I think, as the connect LED is on and the Activity LED
   will flash when booting the TP and randomly when just sitting, the
   Router also shows that random activity.

        I can not connect to the Web, let me state that the IE version
   that came with Win95, is V2.0. Maybe it can not use a router ???
   How can I get a better version on this TP ? Remember that it does
   not see the Web.

        What else do you see as the block here ? In System -> Hardware
   the PCMCIA NIC is well initialized, no yellow ? on it, and it gets
   the two LEDs to flash on it so I would say that it is "there" for
   good. I tried Telnet but there too is no connect. As it does not
   see the IE, I can not ping the router. I have two Xircom NICs here
   and they both behave the same, maybe both are dead ? They are CE3B,
   capable of 10/100. I released all restrictions on the router so it
   would not be locked out even if I think that this only applies to
   wireless, I am using a CAT-5/RJ-45/

        That little machine is running fine. If I can get to the Web,
   I will then think of redoing the main battery, it is no longer
   available anywhere. It would certainly be cheaper for me to rebuilt
   it. That oversize BIOS button battery it doing great too, it boots
   fine and keeps the date right on.

        Thanks for any wisdom or any wise-crack. Might I grab this
   occasion to wish you a great 2007. Getting used to retirement ?
