I leave mine on... I recently got a Slingbox, one of a family of devices
that can make your TV channels available across your home LAN and
(privately) across the Internet.

(There are different models depending on whether you're getting your TV
via cable or satellite, etc.... I use the low-end Slingbox Tuner model,
which plugs into a coax cable connection and an Ethernet connection).

With it, I can watch any of my cable channels on any of the computers in
the house. As well, when we're up at our Sechelt house-- where we have
broadband Internet, but few TV channels, we can watch anything that's
showing on the cable at home.

On our recent cruise, the high cost of Internet access on the ship
(along with the low bandwidth) made this impractical, but otherwise it's
a pretty neat technology.

We're not a big TV watching family, but Linda is addicted to one soap
opera, and we both often enjoy watching 1930's and 40's era movies on
TCN.
