The Macintosh is not the Lisa. They were two different projects. I think
you're also confusing Steve Wozniak with Steve Jobs. Woz didn't ever quit, he
just stopped working. He's still on the payroll to this day, and he's an Apple
shareholder. Steve Jobs was fired by the board, he founded NeXT, and then came
back to Apple later.

And McIntosh Laboratories? Never heard of it.

But NeXT got $400 million when purchased by Apple. I'd say that's not that bad
of a trade, though I can't say how much they spent on developing the NeXT
machines. While OS X is based on BSD (as was NeXT), the Aqua contributions
(along with Objective-C, Cocoa, etc.) are fairly significant. To act like it's
just a distribution of BSD with a pretty window manager is somewhat naive.

Jobs pisses off a lot of people. If you're purchasing the first generation of
some product, especially on launch day, you're an absolute idiot if you don't
expect you'll 1) pay more and 2) get to work out the bugs. I've only bought
two things like that, and I was lucky with both of them where I didn't have
problems. But with one of them I paid a lot of money for it, and it dropped
significantly in price not much later. That's the cost of being able to say
"Hey, I've got <insert thing here>!" before the majority of people can say the
same thing.

Jobs and Woz have a long history, and I'm sure there is conflict between them.
What life-long relationship doesn't? That said, I believe they're still
friends and still talk.

Jobs didnlt leave anyone running the company. The board put everyone in place
when they ousted him. But, Apple wasn't doing so hot after he left. Once Jobs
came back, they started doing much, much, much better. He's definitely a good
businessman. He also knew when to swallow his pride and accept money from the
"enemy", knowing that it would turn to his advantage in the future.

Considering he's a billionaire, I'd say he's doing pretty well.

There are always fans who will buy everything, no matter how sucky the product
us, how terrible the food, how horrible the music, etc. I think the iPhone is
pretty cool, but it has far too many restrictions to be useful to me.

I'd say as long as the system works, it really doesn't matter what is
underneath it. I still miss PowerPC, though (I'm typing this on my G5).

I'd say that's probably true for any fanatic.
