From my brief look at Emergence Basic, it seemed much more similar to
QuickBasic than to, say, Visual Basic (or RealBasic, which I prefer)-- similar
to QuickBasic (for DOS), it could be used to make terminal mode EXEs- programs
that would run in Windows but lack a GUI interface.

According to Dustin, it presumably could be used to create GUI interfaces as
well-- and I have no reason to doubt it-- but like Windows programming prior to
the 1991 release of Visual Basic, that would involve a lot of 'recreating the
wheel' and seems like a huge amount of work.

Visual Basic revolutionized Windows programming by letting users work in what
was almost a desktop publishing environment to create a user interface, the
then to attach snippets of programming code to the various interface elements.

It IS a different model from QuickBasic or earlier line Basics, but the
underlying code is actually pretty similar...
