Ärende: Status of 2m and packet
===============================
 TID: PX/Win v3.0pr5 PX96-0466M2

Hello Holger

I see in your area, the same has happened here....Many are into
Internet and that is the way. Doesn't take much to see the same
in the school, where there used to be a school ham station, that
has been replaced by a few million dollars computer lab with all
the latest to be on the Internet.

Ouch the 3years! When my TNC dies or breaksdown, I am not repairing
it either. Waste of time, as the packet is now all arguement and
nastys.

It seems like if one doesn't have further to say on a subject and
they don't agree, that they start going gutterballing...oh well.

HG> Yes I know, packet has been dead here at least three years and the
HG> repeaters are going the same way. As of today I think I'm the only
 HG> one that still monitors our 2m- and 70cm-repeaters. I haven't heard
HG> any local traffic there in ages. The only ones opening them are either
HG> hams from neighboring countries that want to check out the conditions
HG> or visitors to the islands that don't know the inactivity locally.

Our repeater was into a big system with Toronto FM...and well there
was lots of activity, as well the "jammers" and lots of hunts for
them.

Now..it is dead. Repeater frequencys are being taken over by anyone
wanting a frequency. They have no regard for the repeater councils
or anything.

I guess via echolink I could come to your island? If you would
chat with me....

HG> Yes I know that too. 1999 I built a 70 cm packet radio transceiver to
HG> make my BBS available over radio. However by the end of the year the
HG> packet radio was signed dead and I had to add mic- and speaker-
HG> amplifiers to make the transceiver usable for normal communications.
 HG>

I sort of know what you are talking about, and in some ways I have
felt the same on how fruitless my efforts have been over the years.

HG> To make the BBS available over Internet requires a broadband (ADSL)
HG> permanent connection and I'm sorry to say, I can't afford it.

Me either Sam. I have only slow dialup. Pension is for the needed
things. So all is here or no where. I even once had a line only for
the BBS only...a gateway to packet....a service all hams offer to their
community...but it went down...no interest..and especially when
Internet showed up.

OK so where is the Island?
