definatly will be looking into CC&Rs will also do a little digging with any
zoning boards / county agencies that would control such things however the gov
environments are usualy less strict about such things you can usualy get away
with 30-50 feet if not more with them.   the subdivision we are moving out of
has a  HOA & cc&R that says "no large antennas" which is niceley subjective... 
my idea of a "large" antenna is most certenly diffrent than thiers... my idea
of a large antenna would not fit on my 1/2 acre lot. :) hi hi.  so i have
gotten away with enough while we were here to make me happy. they tried to call
me on one wire antenna, I called my lawyer and he agreed that the terms were
subjective and the HOA here dropped the subject. besides there are a bunch of
other violations in the community that they were not about to enforce. If they
had tried to push mine my lawyer was going to insist they do something about
the RV's and Boats parked on the lots of my neighbors homes.   oh what fun...

Its a shame that the other house you mentioned dosent seem to be an active ham.
I cant say much about not being active i try to get on the radio when i can.
but it is disappointing to hear about others who have dropped out of this
hobby.
