=======================
ml>> since when has ANY mailattach message From: ARCMAIL to
ml>> another system ever had any message body in it?

BF> Since the first time someone took the opportunity to add a
BF> message to it rather than doing the extra key pressings to
 BF> create a new MSG.

then it is not From: ARCMAIL in that case...

BF> And it does not have to be actual text, it's
BF> the only way to pass address information beyond two
 BF> dimensions.

that's incorrect... the packed messages have the means to carry that info...
besides, what tosser looks to a possible arriving MSG for address info and
applies that info to all messages within PKTS inside the attached bundle? i
know for a fact that messages in different networks can be carried within on
PKT file and most definitely within one bundle file... what you appear to be
saying and proposing is extremely shortsighted... all of this stuff has been
hashed years ago during fidonet's climb in use... now we're redeveloping it?
why?

ml>> transfers my systems have performed over the years, there
ml>> has never been one... ever...

BF> That has nothing to do with how it *should* be working.
BF> It's totally up to you if you want to automatically delete
BF> them, but it's *not* up to the sender. After all, the flag is
BF> called KillSent, meaning 'Kill the MSG when it has been sent'.
BF> This as opposed to e.g. the TruncFile/DelFile flags, that
 BF> handles the attached file.

i was speaking of the TFS and KFS attributes... my bad for not getting them
accurate... i had thought that since my discussion was specifically about the
file attached to the message, that that would have been clear...

BF> There are many reasons why it should be left to the
BF> receiving end to decide whether to delete the MSG or not.
BF> Therefore it is *not* up to the sending end to make that
 BF> decision.

i understand what you are saying and firmly believe it to be in error... my
system never sends empty netmail messages with AMA... it may have done so years
ago when FD 2.12 was the top of the line software but not since then...

BF>>> Noone, I guess, that's why any decent mailer and/or mail
BF>>> processor have a setting for deleting them. :)

ml>> yeah... and why is that?

BF> Because some people prefer it that way, of course.

why? why waste the time and run up the cost of transferring something that does
nothing? that's crazy...

ml>> surely we all have a desire to see another braindead mailer
ml>> in fidonet, eh? i know i do!

BF> Name-calling just because you disagree doesn't help Alex,

i didn't do any name calling...

BF> or anyone else, much. Fact of the matter is, the MSG-flag is
BF> called KillSent, that means the MSG should be killed when
BF> sent, not that it should be killed before it is being sent.

FWIW: i've never ever seen a MSG From: ARCMAIL contain the MSG attributes of KS
or TS... the ones all the tossers i've ever seen all applied to the file
attached to the message...

FWIW2: the key to this has been that the message was locally generated and
From: ARCMAIL... if the file was sent, the message was deleted since it was no
longer needed to carry the already transmitted file... this isn't rocket
science...
