General News
 ----------
From suggestions I got at Northeast Astronomy Forum and Earth Day
in April 2005, I sorted out the index of events by geographic zones in
our territory. This arrangement makes it much simpler to zero in on
activities in your part of the NYSkies region. Note that I place each
event in the zone of its occurrence, which is sometimes different from
that of the sponsor's headquarters.
Three members of NYC Events undergoed some changes, for the
better!, in April 2005. Both Catskills Astronomy Club and Buehler-
Columbia Amateur Astronomical Association suffered ediurnation of
their websites. To make up for the slippage, both distributed handouts
at the Northeast Astronomy Forum with updated activities.
Mars Society of new York was a partner with NYSkies and others in
Allies in Space on 2 April 2005. Following the foot-stomping success
of that event, Dr Neil Tyson's 'America's future in space' lecture,
the Society is reviving its own meetings. See its entry for May 14th.
With National Space Society recessed for May, with no meeting, please
visit Mars Society for your monthly space fix.
May is filled out with several nonastro sponsors hosting science
shows. Some are glatt art shows, yet I list them here to applaud their
effort to bring science to the people in novel ways.

Event news
 --------
The three big events of April, Allies in Space lecture, Northeast
Astronomy Forum, and Earth Day, were highlights for NYSkies. We were a
major partner with Allies in Space to present Dr Neil Tyson lecture of
April 2nd at the American Museum of Natural History. In spite of
torrential rains and heavy riparian flooding, about 200 astronomy and
space fans turned out.
Both the Northeast Astronomy Forum on 16-17 April and Earth Day on
22-23 April were thronged with visitors. NEAF scored its highest
attendance ever, about 2,000! A hundred stopped at the NYSkies table
to snatch up litterature, bantered about astronomy, swopped club news.
Earth Day was a whole other story. Weather forecasts were for
heavy rain and strong wind! It DID sprinkle a bit in mid afternoon on
friday the 22ns, chasing away the crowds. Yet in the early afternoon
and around the evening rushhour, the mobs were thick and dense. The
entire attendance of NEAF's two full days passed the NYSkies booth
EVERY HOUR! Saturday was feared to be total washout from all day rain.
Well, it plain never rained at all! The people surged into Vanderbilt
Avenue all day long, crowding our booth two and three deep at times.

 Continued in next message.
