Mom dated Elvis' guitar player, Scotty Moore, several times. She was
something of a wild child when she was in her twenties. And thirties. Hung
out with actors, musicians, lawyers, pretty much anybody that struck her
fancy. Which pissed the rest of the family off to no end... I almost didn't
get here. After she got pregnant, her family, mostly her dad and stepmom,
bugged the hell out of her about getting an abortion, which in the Fifties
was a life-threatening procedure. She said no. The they got on her about
giving me up for adoption. She told them to bugger off, she was going to
have me and raise my by herself if she had to. And she did a pretty good
job.

But I can't deny that it would've been nice to have a dad around, even if it
was somebody as loopy as Sam the Sham. Yeah, she went out with him once or
twice, too.
