First things first: Joe, I'm still hoping to see you at FedCon some
time! Your announcement as a guest for last year's FedCon was the little
nudge I needed to finally watch the show.


I already posted some comments on their appearance on the German B5
newsgroups, but thought you might be interested, too. I found both of
them to be great guests. They talked a little about Andreas, Richard and
Tim, obviously very affected by their passings. Mira remarked that it's
really weird getting asked questions like "So, is there a curse on the
show?" at conventions.

They both said that as a woman it's hard to get roles once you've
reached a certain age, even more so in the US than in Europe. Claudia
was actually shocked to get a part as a 30-year-old mother in England
(and decided to move there immediatly).


As Joe has said in the scriptbooks Claudia is just hilarious. She did
some improvisational theatre with Dean Haglund (one of the Lone Gunmen
from X-Files) and I was honestly laughing my a.. off during that show.

In one of the scenes they brought fans on stage to ask them for the next
piece of dialogue from time to time, leading to scenes like:

CC: "Carrots [that was something a fan had brought up], which remind me
of that thing I love about you, which is..." [she was bending over with
laughter at that point]
fan: "very bad"
CC: "-ly shaped."

They also did a scene incorporating sentences that had been written on
pieces of papers (again, by the audience). Given that it was a
SciFi-convention, most of these sentences were rather... unusual, "I'm
your father, Luke." being one of the less interesting ones.

It's hard to describe, but it is an experience I'm not going to forget
ever again.

Her talks also were very entertaining. She's constantly joking around,
but unlike some other actors I've seen at conventions she doesn't seem
to hide behind these jokes. When she's asked a serious question she'll
give a serious answer. Then she'll get right back to being funny. For
example, when she was asked about getting into acting, she gave a rather
long and serious answer (that can be summarized with "DON'T!") ending
with: "When you're young you think 'I will touch everyone'. Later on you
think 'Okay, maybe I'll manage to touch a few hundred people.' [Looks at
the audience] Not like that!!! [...] Pervy Germans - I love it." Well,
she's like that all the time *g*

She talked a little about a new show that she's on, which is a
SciFi-spoof and was especially fond of the name of her character, Cpt.
Belinda Blowhard. She'll also do theater for a month in Edinburgh in
summer playing a woman of fifty-something years. ("Why is nobody
laughing?!")


Mira is just... well, amazing is as good a word as any. She doesn't seem
to have aged a day (OK, maybe one or two, but certainly not 8 years),
she's charming, thoughtful and great to listen to.

She did quite a big part of her talk on German and is very good with
that. She has done a little European "tour", but looks forward to
getting back to her family. She enjoys doing Lost and especially liked
working with the actor playing Sayid.

She was in no way less interesting than Claudia, even though the length
at which I'm talking about each of them might seem to suggest that. It's
just that I can't really find words to do her justice.
