Coal, still our most abundant resource IS seriously being considered
again.  Don't remember where, but I read an article on it the other
day.  (and I think the key word in what you responded to above is
"planning").

Safer and more efficient nuclear plants are being planned as well.

To bring this back to another post upthread, windfarms...

I'm not quite sure what the Nantucket problem is, though ISTR the fear
is that birds will fly into the blades.  Were this older windfarm
tech, I'd agree that it could be very dangerous for birds - lots of
smaller, very fast-rotating blades, placed closely together.

Newer plan - larger, slower-moving blades, generating more power, not
built right on top of each other.  Mitigating a great deal of the
problem with killed birds. (as an aside, by those lights, we probably
need to tear down buildings - birds run into them all the
time...Sorry, I almost apologize for that)

To me, it seems the biggest objection is that their view will be
impaired or something like that.

('course, I'm for the judicious - read well-thought-out-and
(mostly)failsafe - use of nuclear fuel to generate power, too.  I
guess I'm bad)
