They were getting close, then she had to go and got killed.

Perhaps.  If so, the Universe is either so much of a bastard that it wanted 
to set Lennier on his self-destructive course or simply didn't know him well 
enough to find a proper messenger.

If Lennier did not summon Morden, I like the idea of Morden as a reflection 
of Lennier's own deepening darkness.  In that sense, Morden is the perfect 
choice.

Seems to me that Lennier swung into immidate action.  Lunge, pike to 
morden's throat.

After that, Lennier was not ignoring Morden but his message.

In many ways, the idea of Morden as an external manifestation of Lennier's 
own Shadow seems to fit very nicely.  Lennier treats Morden the same way he 
treats that part of himself...trying to bury it in meditation and duty 
instead of facing it.
