That was the first time we made a *point* of them...but they'd been
lurking in the background in many scenes in season two episodes leading
up to that. I don't recall that we seeded any into the background in
season one, however.

There was a brief bit about this in Joe Q's Joe Fridays column at
newsarama.com, so yes, I was in NYC all week for this...just got back
tonight, exhausted. We planned out books through 2007/2008. Much
goodness coming. In addition to the staff there was me, Bendis,
Millar, Loeb, Ed Brubaker, and for a bit, Joss Whedon.

One well-aimed LAWS rocket and you'd take out two-thirds of the comics
biz right there.

You beat me to it...I was going to mention this. I kind of fell behind
on the intro and commentaries (18,000+ words) due to finishing up the
first television script for the new series. But I'm caught up now, and
all is good. One difference in this edition...a lot of folks were
asking for more lost story material after the first couple of books
came out, and I located a partial early draft of a script entitled
"Festival!" which I completely dropped and re-tooled as "The Parliament
of Dreams." So we're including that partial script and the notes that
I wrote with it about where it was going to go in volume 4. This was
also the only script written featuring Mr. Jones, who was going to
become a recurring character on the show. Again, it's an inside look
into the creative process and decisions that created the series.

And while I'm here...a question for the neep-neeps amongst us....

Having finished the TV script, and catching up on both my comics work
and the fourth volume of B5 scripts, I figured I'd reward myself by
installing Quake 4, which I'd bought some time ago and have been
waiting for the right time to treat myself.

So I install the triple-damned thing and after the opening screen, all
I get is a white screen with two small orange/yellow-ish rectangles at
the bottom of what I assume is probably some kind of menu. Is there
anybody out there who knows what the hell I have to do to get this
thing working?

Of course, the moment I do, I think I can pretty much forget getting
any work done for a while....

That's not the same show...in the UK the series was called Space
Patrol, but because in the US there was another show by that name, they
changed the name of the series to Planet Patrol for North America.
This link is to the other, non-puppet-based series.

Subject: Andreas Katsulas is gone
From: jmsatb5@aol.com
Newsgroups: rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated

Just over a year ago, Andreas Katsulas -- who loved smoking with a
passion that cannot be described -- was diagnosed with lung cancer,
which by then had already spread to other areas. He quit smoking at
once and went on a healthy diet and vitamin program, but there was
little hope of a good resolution even though the new regimen was very
good for him. When we spoke about it, he laughed, and said, "Now that
I'm dying I've never felt better!"

His spirits were always up and positive, putting everyone at ease about
his condition, because...well, that's the kind of person he was.

A couple of months ago, he and his wife convened a dinner with me,
Doug, and Peter Jurasik, which was filled with laughter and stories and
good food. He wanted to know all the stories we never told him
because, as he said, "Who am I going to tell?" So we did. Because we
knew we were saying goodbye, and there would not be a second chance.

Last night, in the company of his wife and family, Andreas closed his
eyes and went away.

He lived an amazing life...full of travel and wonder and good
work...was part of the world renowned Peter Brook company...he saw the
planet, loved and was loved, ate at great restaurants, smoked too many
cigarettes...he lived a life some people would die for.

And, sadly, due to the last part of that equation...he did.

Memorial arrangements are still being worked out, but will doubtless be
private.

Andreas is gone...and G'Kar with him, because no one else can ever play
that role, or ever will.

I will miss him terribly.

J. Michael Straczynski
