ml> hunnh? do what in reverse?

 MK> I forgot.

yeah, me too ;)

MK>> More likely lack of knowledge and limited choices in most cases.

ml> unlikely... it is more likely one of the reasons that i originally
ml> gave... that being the one so that folk could start participating
ml> even before they show up in the nodelist...

MK> But that implies they have a nodelist where their node is already
MK> an entry or they are using a tosser that doesn't use a nodelist.

no, not them... everyone else out there that's already in the nodelist... sure,
the new guys would have trouble =if= they got any echomail but if all systems
in the line were testing message's originating nodes against the nodelist, the
new guy wouldn't get anything other than netmail, possibly...

checking against the nodelist might also cause problems with gated messages
considering the way the origin lines are _supposed_ to be done and how some
software bails at the first one they see but that's another programatic problem
to handle elsewhere ;)

ml> nodelist... so i suppose that all Z2 nodes should have been throwing
ml> all my messages away? even the several hundred a day support messages
ml> for the BBS software i was working with??

MK> You'd have to ask them that. I have never been a Z2 node or had
MK> any direct dealings with any of them. Mind you I could say the
MK> same for most of Z1 even though I have, and have had, Z1 node(s).

no i don't... you need to stop and think about the original comment... that
being that unlisted node's echomail shouldn't travel anywhere... if this had
been enforced back in the day, then a lot of echomail would not have made it to
other zones _because_ of their updating situations... think about it... the
history is available and should be easy enough to come by... as a hint, Z2 was
tunneled via university FTP accounts between two people on whatever schedule
they were able to manage... this was back in the day when the deal with
tunneling fidonet traffic _required_ certain rules and regulations to be
followed in a specific manner of operation...

ml> toss times and you want to extend that even further by adding in a
 ml> nodelist lookup, too? hello?

MK> I honestly don't care. However I do find it amusing that the ones
MK> who claim to care are the most likely to get it wrong.

that's because they're not the coders ;) ;)
