Hi All...

An Australian Parliamentary Inquiry on freedom of religion and
belief in 2000 received a submission from Eliana Freydel Miller
advocating the adoption of the "Universal Laws of Ethics and
Morality" - aka the "Seven Universal Noahide Laws".

According to google, Eliana Miller is, or was, a member of the
New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies. Surely she would have
understood the implications of adopting her "Universal Laws"
on Christians and others who would be considered to be idolaters
under the first of the seven "noachide laws" from the Talmud,
and subject to execution by beheading. While the bulk of the
submissions have nothing to do with noachide laws, if her
submission is adopted by the Australian Government, it may
lay the groundwork for future enactment & enforcement of 
the "laws".

Report on Freedom of Religion and Belief to both Houses of Parliament

Chapter 8

Proposals for promoting religious freedom

8.1    Many submissions made recommendations and suggestions to
improve freedom of religion and belief, both within Australia and
internationally. These proposals are considered in this and subsequent
Chapters, leading to the Committee's conclusions and recommendations.

8.54    Ms Eliana Freydel Miller advocated the adoption of the
Universal Laws of Ethics and Morality:

    * recognition of God as Sole Creator and Sovereign Ruler of the
      Universe, and the prohibition of idolatry;

    * prohibition of blasphemy;

    * prohibition of murder;

    * prohibition of incest, adultery and all forms of immorality;

    * prohibition of theft;

    * establishment of courts of justice, and

    * prohibition of the taking or eating from an animal while it is
      still alive. 

8.55    Ms Miller saw these as laws of human decency for righteous
humanity, given by God. They are valid for all time, but are rarely
stated. She believed that Australia should be instrumental in the
making of an historical and positive choice, promoting in schools and
universities the teaching of the ethics and morality of these Laws.40
