======================
Hiya Ruth!
->
-> -> tonight/tomorrow but most of the "wet" punch is gone. Supposed to
only
-> -> have highs in the low 50s the next few days, with colder weather next
->
-> hn> In the past week or so temps have only gone above freezing for short
-> hn> bits of time in the afternoon, and as soon as the sun sets the
mercury
-> hn> plummets! Finally they say it is over and we should be getting back to
-> hn> some more normal temps this week...but so far I haven't seen it! It's
-> hn> 9:30 and 33 degrees out and the snow and slush is awful!
->
-> We're a few degrees warmer; I checked our thermometer at 10 and it read
-> 38. It didn't get quite cold enough to snow last night but it was wet
-> enough to have. The rain & cold are continuing today.
->
We're having rain, but the temps have climbed back up to the mid 40's and
it's SOOO much better than the ice and slush on the roads!

-> -> hn> immediate area of one of the show venues. Of course I'm used to
-> -> hn> Seattle traffic and that might be a factor as well (grin).
->  hn> ->
-> -> I can remember one year it rained really bad, tore down vendor's tents
-> -> and a lot of other wind damage in the area. I think we had snow on
Fort
-> -> Huachuca then. Steve isn't used to city driving, thus, would rather not
-> -> do it if the city is full of people who are just visiting or otherwise
-> -> not where they are supposed to be in line with where he wants to go.
(G)
-> -> We did have to go up several times during events but stayed away from
-> -> where they were held as much as possible, usually trying to get home
for
->
-> hn> City driving for the most part doesn't bother me that much, I'm fairly
-> hn> used to it...however driving in the San Francisco bay area is awful!
-> hn> And Phoenix area sure is nasty as well! Tucson is very nicely laid out
-> hn> on the grid system and it's pretty easy to get around and avoid
->
-> Have you ever tried Boston? When we were at Fort Devens, we tried to
-> tell our BIL to take the train in to Boston but he drove. Came back
-> that night fussing about how he should have listened to us. We had the
-> misfortune of hitting Atlanta (the south side) around 4 pm on our way
-> out here; we had to get to the north side as we were on our way to SC to
-> visit friends. Took us about 2 1/2 hours to get thru. Stopped at a
-> strip mall outside the city on the north side finally around 7 for
-> supper--not a very romantic aniversary celebration but we were together.
-> (G)
->
I've never visited Boston, but most "BIG" cities are the same....and I can't
say that I care for them much. I've driven through Chicago and Atlanta,
Miami wasn't bad, Memphis is easy, HATE LA, I like San Francisco but don't
like driving in it. San Diego is easy peasy, although the freeways can really
be
a pain. I've driven through NYC more times than I care to recount and it's
ALWAYS a pain in the keester. Once you get out to Queens and Long Island
it gets marginally better but still is rough. Las Vegas is pretty easy, Phoenix
is
laid out ok, but there are just SO many people on the roads that traffic
seems to be perpetually jammed. Seattle at rush hour sucks pretty bigtime,
but if you know your way around you can sneak around fairly well with a few
exceptions. Portland OR is nasty as the freeways resemble three octopusses
in a wrestling match and you always seem to end up on the opposite lane
from where you need to be. Dallas is easy, Houston is not, Wash DC area is a
total pain, and now (since 9-11) I imagine it has gotten much worse.

-> hn> problem spots when they pop up. If I was to think about "wintering"
->  hn> somewhere I'd probably have a tossup
-> hn> between San Diego and Tucson.
->
-> We'd like southeastern AZ, not neccessarily Tucson but not counting it
-> out entirely.
->
I think I could perhaps winter there, but could not live there full
time....just
not enough "green" for me I'm used to the lushness of the Northwet and I do
like it....We have always enjoyed our one week trips to AZ though. There are
so many "retirement" communities in Southern AZ that there's lots to choose
from!

-> ->  hn> after (and more) there! www.shipwreckbeads.com
->
-> -> I guess I'll have to take a look. (G)
->
-> hn> Let me know what you think!
->
-> I'll look after Steve finishes getting the new computer set up working.
-> Right now, I'm doing good to have my Fido.

oooOoOoOohhh new 'puter!!!!! Annie got one (new Laptop) from me for
Christmas and she's loving it!
->
->
-> -> I like that area of the country--remember, "red or green?" is the state
-> -> question and it referrs to chili/related hot foods.
->
-> hn> I like em both (grin) and Anne won't have either but she manages to
-> hn> find something bland on just about any menu (grin).
->
-> I like them both but not quite as hot as Steve does. One time in a
-> place near Las Cruces Steve ordered the red and I ordered something with
-> green sauce; the waitress told us that the red was hotter than the green
-> in the two things we'd ordered. Mine ended up being hotter than
-> Steve's.  Good thing I had a large glass of hortchata. (G)
->
On a scale of 1-5 with 5 being WOWSER hot and 1 being not hot at all....well
Anne comes in usually at about a minus 3 (grin) sometimes I think mashed
potatoes would be too spicey for her!

-> -> hn> chicken stew! I cooked a big meatloaf, and a biiiig pork roast today
->
-> -> Still trying--no real urge to cook, even making stock from the turkey
-> -> and chicken carcasses I've got in the freezer. Then I'd have to figure
-> -> out where to stow the extra.
->
I cooked the pork roast with mole and it came out good....but overcooked
and dry (the way Anne likes it) so the next day I did up a crockpot of pinto
beans and rice and chunked up the remains of the roast and it to the beans
and rice...with a bit more mole...came out pretty good, but a bit spicy for
Anne.
So now we have leftover chili, beans and pork, meatloaf and baked chicken
breasts in the fridge...won't have to do much cooking this weekend which is
good.

->  hn> Well, don't push too hard!
->
-> I'm not pushing yet. Was out for a couple of hours last night at church
-> but skipped choir practice again. Probably stay home tonight and save my
-> energy for a grocery run down at Fort Stewart on Saturday.
->
I'm coming down with something, not sure what, low grade fever (100 this
morning) no chills or anything just feeling slightly "off", so I'll be laying
low
this weekend. Maybe today I'll make up some chicken soup with rice in it.
that always seems to help!
chat with you soon
