Yeah, but why is this five a five and this three a three? Why aren't
they both fours?

 HN> One day the greens are soft  and hold an approach shot easily, the next

Interesting disquisition.

 -> But one isn't then betting on the result of the match but

How do rank beginners fit into this scheme? With golfers
I guess it's pretty easy, but what about horses, see below.

Still meaningless to me.

Let's say Man-o-War runs 1'51.3" and sets the course record
while carrying a jockey and six sandbags.

At some future race, let's say Unknown Anonymous runs 1'51.0,
breaking the course record, carrying a jockey and a Big Mac.

Why is the course record going to go to Unknown Anonymous,
when Man-o-War with the Big Mac (ontopicizer) would have run
the course in 90 seconds?

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: McDonald's Big Mac
 Categories: Copycat, Sandwiches
      Yield: 1 Serving

  1 1/2    sesame-seed hamburger buns
    1/4 lb ground beef
      1 ds salt
      1 Tb Kraft Thousand Island
           - dressing (or Special Sauce)
      1 ts onion - minced
    1/2 c  lettuce - chopped
      1 sl American cheese
      3 sl dill pickle

  With a serrated knife, cut the top off the extra bun half,
  leaving about a 3/4"-thick slice.  This will be the middle
  bun in your sandwich. Place the three bun halves on a hot
  pan or griddle, face down, and  toast them to a light brown.
  Set aside, but keep the pan hot.

  Divide the ground beef in half and press into two thin
  patties slightly larger than the bun. Cook the patties in
  the hot pan over medium heat for 2-3 min per side.  Salt
  lightly.

  Build the burger in the following stacking order from the
  bottom up: bottom bun, half of dressing, half of onion,
  half of lettuce, cheese, beef patty, middle bun, remainder
  of dressing, remainder of onion, remainder of lettuce,
  pickle slices, beef patty, top bun.
