==================
ML> purpose of sneaking. Wonder what you'll say if it turns out that
ML> the anonymous benefactor is (y)our King Rupe.
GJ> If it was his mother, Lady Elizabeth Murdoch, I could easily believe
GJ> it, but as for her evil son, not unless he has suddenly found
GJ> enlightenment and done a 180 degree shift of values. (A 90 degree
GJ> shift would be far more likely.)

I'm betting on Rupe.

GJ> John Carradith violin - the twin to Paganini's - for $10 million, for
ML> It's perhaps a good thing that the great instruments are
ML> slowly gravitating to the less tumultuous parts of the world.
GJ> They certainly are revered and played here as well as being preserved.

Perhaps it's a natural counterpoise to the rough and readiness
of the Ozzie-in-the-street; that coupled with a sprinkling of
inferiority complex. If I'd had any brains in my youth, I could
easily have come down and become the Musical Rupert of the
Southern Hemisphere. The Ozzie-in-the-street would love me as
I could down as many pints as they, as well as fear me as I
had a violin and knew how to use it.

ML> Speaking of which, which Paganini's violin?
GJ> Not mentioned. Some reports say that this Guarneri was the one owned
GJ> by Paganini, but according to my reading, that instrument, also by
GJ> Giusseppe Guarneri (del Gesu) is in a museum in Genoa.

Pags had a bunch of fiddles - a del Gesu as well as a
trio or quartet of Strads. One of these (I'm not sure if it
was the del Gesu or the Strad) was Il Cannone, so called
because he could blow everyone away with it

GJ> Now, going from the sublime to the gorblimey, I have been doing a
GJ> little taste test to find the best drink to go with fresh durian.
 GJ> Cuban rum fights it.

I'd think a sticky black rum like the Cruzan's Navy thing.
Not Gosling's, which tastes like chemicals.

GJ> The rate of heating is limited by what is available - the capacity of
GJ> the hot water boiler on one hand, and the size of the electric supply
GJ> cables on the other. If the concrete floor is insulated below, as is
GJ> sometimes done by pouring it over polystyrene foam

Our concrete floors, as I understand it, are not insulated in
this way, and the summer humidity probably militates against it.

ML> It can't be all my fault, as I haven't succeeded in making
ML> Carol into a rabid carnivore.
GJ> Some females are more capable of resisting your evil influences than
 GJ> others.

I must be modest about my corrupting influence: Chooky is the
only one who has do the 180 toward my point of view.

=
GJ> I think I have enjoyed cherrystones in a chowder in Salem. The large,
GJ> cheap ones I referred to above were indeed quahogs.

ML> Well, as I've discussed, Qantas is chicken, whereas Virgin Blue is
ML> more like your beloved Chooky - malignant as well as chicken.
GJ> Virgin has been talking of going trans-Pacific, so you may have yet
GJ> another alternative route to refuse to fly on with them. :)

I'll bear that in mind and think of the self-satisfied smirk
of Sir Richard (to go with that of Sir Rupert, though the latter
is far more objectionable) when I find that it costs $200 more
to take United even for the unupgradeable seats. I'll pay the
extra, thank you, either that or forgo the company of Glen,
Greg, Kevin, Leonore, et al.

GJ> That is not so long ago. In fact the aforementioned Tricky is still
GJ> around, as far as I know. I don't recall hearing him speak.

Tricky? Quite dead.

-=> Glen Jamieson said to Jim Weller <=-

JW> Cuba makes most excellant rum, but Americans wouldn't (or shouldn't)
 JW> know that.
GJ> I have photographic evidence of a renegade American actually drinking
GJ> Cuban rum, comparing it with Jamaican, Filipino and Australian rums.

How did you know this individual of interest was in fact an
American? Was "American" writ large, as they say, upon his/her
brow?

CUBA LIBRE
cat: subversive, alcohol, text only
servings: 1

In a glass pour in a shot of light rum the juice of half a lime and
top with coke. Okay now that that is out of the way lets get started.
(I dare you to go to a bar and ask for a Cuba Libre)

Be wild have a Rum and Cherry Coke. okay time to get real BTW I do
like Rum and Coke so don't flame me. I've just never heard anyone call
it a Cuba Libre.

M's note: this was written by an ignorant college student.
