==================
Hi Dale,

DS> fond memories -- even if never to be done again. Other things
DS> become a staple part of our menus.

RH> I presume durian is in the former category. I have never tried it but

DS> Mixed reaction to durian at the Shipp's house. I did not object
DS> to the smell, and sort of liked the taste when first eaten. I did
DS> not like the taste as much when it came back a second and third
DS> though. Gail definitely did not like the smell. Her description
DS> is that it is a cross between overripe cantelope (she hates
DS> cantelope) and overripe baby diapers. We did it for multiple
DS> years at echo picnics -- but after a while, it got sort of old hat

But there will be enough "new" faces this year..................(G)

DS> We could introduce you to one at the Korean market about five miles
 DS>    up the road:-}}

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm; us and how many others? I know if Glen were coming, he
would want in on the action.

RH> I'm still debating, what, other than rice, to bring to the picnic in
RH> July. It'll be a bit too early for raw peanuts from this year's crop I

DS> Really? When do peanuts come out? I did not realize that they
DS> were so seasonal. We talked about trying to do boiled peanuts
DS> last year, but somehow it slipped right by us all.

I think the season is late August to mid/late September. On our cross
country travels last year, we got to Alabama in mid September and saw
signs everywhere for boiled peanuts. There were a good number of signs
for them around Savannah when we got here on Sept. 23 but it seemed like
they all had been taken down by mid October or so.

RH> think. At least I've got some time to think about it--maybe take some
RH> of the rice cooked and make fried rice,if nothing else. (G)

DS> That same Korean market has all sorts of take away food in vats.
DS> None of it do we recognize, and if color is any judge (as it often
DS> is for Indian food), much of it is too hot for us -- but do not
 DS> know.
DS> Maybe you could select some dishes there for the rest of us to try?

Possible; we aren't world's experts on Korean food but could give it a
go. Remember, the more red pepper flakes, the hotter the dish. It's
not the usual cayenne type red pepper either, tho that could be used if
you couldn't get the Korean type. Somewhere in the stuff that needs
putting away yet, I've got some information about the peppers that I
can pass along.

DS> Don't really need to do much -- there is going to be lots of food.

I know but we want to do our part. Maybe chicken "scampi" as I can do
it over a propane camp stove and we'll have lots of rice to put it on.
It's a quick and easy thing too.

Catch you later,
