Frey Merlot 03 (Mendocino, CA) - the selling point of this
is that it's biodynamic; the main negative point, and the
reason it was in the bargain bin, was that it tastes bad.
Odd strong waxy-chemically nose, good tannin, but with an
amazing mishmosh of coffee, tobacco, and vinegar on the
palate. Finish a little cherrylike, but that's the only
fruit I found in the wine at all.

Bridgman Cabernet 02 (WA) - a notable wine, for not having
any aroma or flavor at all. Could have been water with
vinegar and sugar in it. 

Apex II Merlot 03 (WA) - odd cherry, soy sauce nose, funny
plastic-wrapped fruit on the palate, some coffee,
medium cherryish finish. Didn't care for it.

Apex Cabernet 01 (WA) - decent wine, medium dark ruby, nice
plummy nose, a bit herbal, tannin gentle but very present,
fairly decent wine, not a big surprise as it costs as
much as the previous two put together.

Stonehaven Shiraz 05 (SE Australia) - deep purple, plummy
herbal aroma, touch of chocolate or something else brown.
A touch sweet, a touch stemmy. Neither bad nor good.
Okay with food.

Townshend Syrah 02 (WA) - medium purple, good legs, very
fruity, a little on the sweet side, not much tannin,
a bit plump, pretty nice with food.

Mas Que Vinos Ercavio Blanco 04 (La Mancha) - very
light in color and body, grapefruity opening and a
strange dead palate followed by a really nice herbal
citrusy finish. I thought Sauvignon Blanc. Made from
95% Airen (supposedly the most juice for the money
of any grape) with 5% Sauvignon Blanc.

Anderson Valley Red Chile Wine n.v. - quite pleasant,
actually, the capsicum adding a little dimension to an
otherwise rather too soft and edge-free Cabernet. Others
found a noticeable hotness; I just noted a little pepper.
I'd consider buying this for a novelty, not to drink.

Anderson Valley Balloon Blush n.v. (16th series) - fairly
sweet, nice clear pinky color. Aroma of fox grapes and
tropical fruit, a little chemically, not too bad otherwise.

The two Anderson Valley wines are from New Mexico.

Salmon Run Riesling (Dr. Konstantin Frank, New York
State) 03. Clear to the eye, pleasantly limpid on the
tongue. A bit acid. Not a touch of labruscosity, which
is good. I thought it fairly decent; Nicholas liked it.
