Including [shudder] Australians. Most of the reports seem to play
this up (what we get are mostly Antipodophile reports - such as
the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age, and ABC). Early reports have
it that many of the fatalities were business-class passengers.
That isn't going to prevent me from flying business class when
I can con the airlines into letting me do so.

The Berlin Phil didn't have much to do with Auschwitz - its conductor,
as I mentioned before, was instrumental (I've made that pun before) in
getting many Jewish musicians out of Germany. As far as Mercs and Beemers,
I agree, and I'd say that most of the people I've seen who drive them
would have fit in nicely in the German world of 1933 to 1945. Now
Volkswagens, that's another story.

Are there any notable positive achievements of the KKK or of its
members (not counting Hugo Black, who disowned the organization
later in his life)?

White Gazpacho
cat: starter, soup
serves: 6

1 c blanched almonds
2 garlic; peeled and halved
3 sl French or Italian bread; crusts removed
1/4 c water
4 c cold chicken stock; or vegetable stock or water
1/4 c good olive oil
3 Tb white wine vinegar
1/2 ts salt
1 c seedless green grapes; halved
1/2 c lightly toasted croutons

Toast almonds until light golden. Blend almonds and garlic into a
uniformly fine, gritty paste.

Moisten the bread in water and squeeze dry. Add to the
almond-garlic mix, and blend. Add 4 c stock or water, oil,
vinegar, and salt. Blend until smooth. If a fine texture is
desired, strain through a medium-fine sieve. Cover and
chill at least 4 hr.

To serve, taste for salt and stir in grapes. Ladle into bowls
and scatter croutons on top.
