Grin, I havent made it to one yet either but the rule of thumb is to bring
yourselves and a big appetite, and some simple thing local to your area (or a
recipe you make up there that is local to your area or you like).

You'll note this time folks are bringing raw rice and rice cookers if they have
one, or recipes for making rices they will buy up at the Shipp's area.

Past times i've seen offers of the strange (durian and such) and the sublime
(Fresh FRESH georgia peaches).  A few links of a well thought of sausage or
8oz or so of a cheese that you like and isnt easy to find elsewhere.  Also you
see folks bringing really horrid cheap wines, trying to freak out the rest
<G>.

Generally, if you need a special tool to make the dish, and are driving, load
that tool in the car or ask ahead and see if they have one spare to use.  Me,
I'd load my breadmaker and both crockpots and perhaps might bring the
vertisserie (vertical rotisserie with metal crockpot ontop) so others could
just look at it and go 'neat'.  I might not make bread, probably would toss
'something' in the crockpot, and would show off my vertisserie which may or
may not be used.

If i could magically transport from Sasebo to the picnic, I'd bring a load of
fresh shrimp, varied shellfish, fresh squid, japanese green peppers, Japanese
garlic, and Japanese carrots.  Cost total would be about 15$.  Oh and 1/2 cup
of red korean dried pepper flakes (about 50cents if that since i buy it in
Korea).

Bringing yourself and Maura is more important of a gift, than anything else you
can bring.  The rest is just for 'fun'.
