Hi Carol,

CS> Tell him to checkout Charlotte's latest detention reasons <g>.

He did--that girl's going to get into big time trouble if she doesn't
watch out. Ours never did anything on that sort but then too, computers
and schools were making friends at the time, not as well acquainted as
they are now. (G)

RH> did at about the same age. He deliberately got detention just to see
RH> he could talk in the detention time. I don't remember the results of

CS> Well Charlotte gets detention pretty regular here, sorry to say. She
CS> normally does it for unique reasons though. You get these little
CS> mystified eyeballs going 'she did WHAT?' and 'what the heck do we do
 CS> about THAT one?'.

Well, at least she's not out roaming the street. (G)

CS> Like, she hooked up WiFi for the base housing off the school lan. She
CS> practiced installs of debian by installing it over the school backup
CS> server. She emailed everyone at the school the hack codes for a
CS> popular DS2 game (hey, they had an open relay!). She read computer
CS> english class to email all her geography classmates the GPS searchable
CS> map coodinates of Egypt so they didnt have to use the book the teacher

Too computer literate! (G)

CS> She's hotwired an orgami made structure that is a sat-dish covered in
CS> foil, to bleed off a feed to the downstairs neighbor kid's MP3 music
CS> but that one hasnt lead to detention.

No, but she's got a sharp mind for electronics. Any plans for a future
career in them? Deborah has finished some of the multitude of training
she's getting this year from Uncle Sam; she's now certified in Haz-Mat.
For not having high school chemistry, she handled the chem portions of
class quite well.

CS> When the school emails me, they ask why she isnt wearing a bra and if
CS> we need financial assistance or a few loaners. The boys are following
CS> Japanese mostly have. (She has plenty of Bras but doesnt *like*
CS> wearing them. School pressure has me force the issue a little with

We had that issue too with one of the girls; peer pressure kicked in
before I made much of an issue about it.

CS> Ah, 13YO's can be so much *fun*! It's not that she's blazingly
CS> intelligent, it's that she's always finding something new to try that
CS> I didnt even think to mention to her. I still cant get over the base
CS> housing WiFi... Folks are complaining now to the base that it stopped
 CS> working <snicker>.

Are you sure she's not child #2? They get into the things #1 didn't
even dream exsisted.

CS> unpeeled onion in and use 14 cups water and cook on the stove top.
CS> This one works well though for a crockpot as it is with the bones

RH> Looks good and will give a nice broth. I've been doing more stove top
RH> broth making recently; have to concentrate some beef broth later today

CS> Yes, I used the basics of crockery that time but knew the roasting of
CS> the bones (mostly meatfree if you do that) would make the trick. I
CS> think it was Ian that explained that part well to me first. Might
CS> have been Jim Weller though?

I've read it and thought about it but not done it. Maybe because most of
my broth is chicken or trukey from what Steve smokes.

CS> I dont use that trick with poultry bones but with beef or pork, it
CS> seems 'right' and works quite well when I take the time to do it.

Maybe I ought to give it a try?

 CS> Title: Xxcarol's Porky Beans
CS> Categories: Xxcarol, Crockpot, Beans, Pork
 CS> Yield: 14 Servings

RH> This looks a lot better than so many "pork & bean" recipes that list a
RH> can or 2 of pork & beans in the ingredients string. Basically, IMO,
RH> those are just doctored canned beans; I like to start with the dry

CS> I had to give up the canned 'pork and beans' so long ago, I barely
CS> recall them except I see them at the ship now and again as part of our
CS> communal 'fodder'. My sugar needs just didnt make room for such.

I don't even bother with them, even tho I don't have a sugar problem.
My home made ones, I do put brown sugar and molasses into tho, along
with vinegar, spicy brown mustard, ketchup, canned tomatoes and other
such like.

CS> If you want something that 'tastes really sugary-sweet but isnt' look
CS> at some of my ones that add large amounts of green (or other color)
CS> bell peppers. The bells dont taste 'sweet' all that much but somehow
CS> the magic happens as they combine to make an almost 'molasis bean
CS> bake' sort of thing. I do not know why. I just know it works.

We've been buying and using more of the red/orange/yellow peppers out
here. Trouble is, we can buy a sack full of green peppers for the cost
of the others; something is wrong there. I do use lot of peppers in my
cooking since I do a lot of southwest and Italian kinda/sorta.

CS> My 'Boston baked beans' hasnt been MM'ed as it's too close to one i
CS> have in MM already. It uses NO sugar added at all. It looks
CS> different, but tastes so sweet I feel like I had a bowl of ice-cream
 CS> except it's warm.

My beans haven't ben MM either as I just dump in whatever without
measuring. Funny tho, they always taste the same--good!

BTW, the Milwaukee Sweet Tart Supper recipe Dale sent to me on Feb.4; I
don't know how long you keep a data base but I'm sure he could send it
to you or I could if you want it.

Catch you later,
Ruth
