*** Quoting Ruth Haffly from a message to Carol Shenkenberger ***

RH> Well, at least she's not out roaming the street. (G)

CS> Naw, she does that in packs with the other girls now <g>.

RH> Which, I suspect you'll tighten up on when you get back stateside. We
RH> did with our girls; military environments overseas seem to be more of
RH> the "everybody looks out for each other" as you've described more so
RH> than state side.

Yes, we'll have to tighten down on that. Very different from here.

I just finished working my shift at the local Furniture Bazaar (and other stuff
got added in, rug maker, jewlrey, asian dolls in cases, etc). Really nice
stuff for prices you wont see outside here. The little end table I got would
sell for 600$ stateside easy, was marked 280$ and the lady sold it to us for
150$ (cut rate for working there 3.5 hours and Charlotte and I oil polished
every bit of her stock to a high gleam while helping her sell stuff). Kids
running around helping. I helped some new folks find their way back to the
base (walking). Charlotte helped the food sales place.

The CPO's ran a little food stall. Pulled pork (outstanding!), pulled beef (I
had the pork). Home made scratch baked beans (not overly sweet, very very
good!), fresh home made coleslaw. Soda or water. 5$ a plate. Charlotte was
out huckstering for them <g>.

CS> constantly so it's just a phase I guess. I jumped all over her about
CS> it though. She's gonna have to repeat this year's english i think...

RH> Summer school?

I guess. Not sure what happens.

CS> She spent her time reading 'Linux Unleashed' instead of doing her book
CS> report. I was at sea so can only deal with the aftermath.

RH> Couldn't do a book report on that?

Thats what we worked out. She's finishing it up this weekend.

CS> Good on Deborah! FT Lenord Wood school right?

RH> Yes, and when she got back to AZ, was sent to Huachuca for a week long
RH> exercise with county law enforcement. One of the leaders of a county
RH> unit had her as his interface with the military and was downright
RH> impressed. He e-mailed Steve's battalion commander, who's a friend of
RH> his, after looking in the AKO directory and finding 3 Haffly's listed,
RH> with Steve at this unit. He's putting her in for a county commendatio
RH> & wanted to know if Steve was her dad.

Cool!

CS> She's wearing one now. Not much choice. She's definately 'busty' for
CS> her age group. 34B is a little loose still but 32B is tight. 34A is
CS> just about right depending on the style but some are too small. (The

RH> Check on line; I think it's Haines, but could be another company, make
RH> odd sizes. They're hard to find in stores so on line is probably your
RH> best bet; I suspect your selection is very limited.

Actually I can get her outfitted easier here but have to go in town. She's a
little bigger but not my much, than the average Japanese lady. Thats why the
base doesnt stock 'teen bras' much.

CS> Worth trying! I'll be looking into it too for roasting bones in
CS> advance. I think marrow bones would take well to that. Say, just
CS> salt and pepper them then roast for 20 mins at 350? Sounds right?

RH> I still don't have the beef bones. I just finished simmering down abo
RH> 4 quarts of stock into one. We smoked turkey breast abut a week ago,
RH> then I cooked some chicken in water (as it was getting other seasoning
RH> so had enough I wanted to concentrate. Nice smell to it! (G)

I dont have much in that line but locally out in town I can get them. Here,
they are still pretty cheap. 50cents or so for a good 2 lb bag of chopped
marrow bones.

RH> I know; I can't really write down my bean recipe since so much of it i
RH> "a bit of this" and "a dash of that" sort. But, they always disappea
RH> fast when I take them somewhere.

Same here. My beanpots are various and i've mealmasterd only a few of the
simplist ones.

RH> here. Trouble is, we can buy a sack full of green peppers for the cost
RH> of the others; something is wrong there. I do use lot of peppers in m

CS> Out here, it's often the reverse. Red bell peppers are cheapest.
CS> There's a mild flavor diffrence in cooking with them that i like, but
CS> not enough to pay 2-3$ a lb for when we get back home. I'll try
CS> growing them again though in my backyard.

RH> Be careful not to grow other (hot) peppers nearby; one year we had mil
RH> jalapenos and hot bells. (G) I'd put in a garden plot if I could but m
RH> just do some hanging baskets or tubs. Tomatoes would be the main crop,
RH> then peppers.

Baskets would well for the smaller items. Tubs work great to handle tomatoes.
For 'hot peppers' it would be banana peppers for me. I like those quite a
bit.
