Rats come in all different sizes. When I was in the Navy some of the 
rats along the Mississippi Riverfront  could give medium size dogs a run 
for their money. I got "treed" on top of a brick column for about and 
hour and a half by one such. Not an experience I care to repeat.

      Title: Caramel Sugar Cookies
 Categories: Desserts, Cookies
      Yield: 36 Cookies
 
  3 1/2 c  Sifted all-purpose flour
      1 ts Baking powder
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/4 ts Baking soda
      1 c  Shortening
  1 1/2 c  Firm packed brown sugar
      1    Egg
    1/4 c  Condensed evaporated milk
      1 ts Vanilla extract
 
  Brown sugar gives these delightful crispy cookies their
  distinctive caramel flavor.
  
  Preheat oven to 400°F.
  
  Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and baking
  soda. Set aside.
  
  Cream the shortening with an electric mixer; gradually add
  the brown sugar and cream well. With mixer running at
  medium speed, add the egg, evaporated milk and vanilla,
  and beat well.
  
  Reduce mixer speed to low, and blend in dry ingredients
  gradually. Mix well.
  
  Roll out dough on floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
  Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter. Place on ungreased
  baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake in 400°F oven for
  8 to 10 minutes.
