Ärende: Dine for life

Hey Gang!
Last night was "Dine out for Life" in Tacoma, where 25% of the proceeds from 
selected restaurants went to support AIDS charities. So Anne and I decided 
we'd go out and find a new place (on the list) and enjoy a nice meal out. We 
ended up at Stadium Bistro, a new place we had not even known existed and 
it looked empty and inviting so we went in. There is a small dining area up 
front by the big windows looking right out onto the street (not the most 
impressive view to be sure) and a biggish bar area immediately to the rear of 
it and another larger and darker dining area beyond that. The menu is fairly 
small and the prices were not terribly high but they weren't pub grub prices 
either (grin). About 6 -8 "starters" and about the same number of entree's. 
We started with drinks, Anne had a grasshopper, and I had a gin bloody 
mary....both were excellent! Anne decided on a pear and greens salad with 
goat cheese ($8) and I went for the french onion soup ($8). Anne's salad 
was nice with a port reduction dressing that was intense and yet light. The 
french onion soup was the best I have had in probably 10 years or more! The 
last time I had french onion soup that good it was done by Jeff Smith's sous 
chef at one of his places in downtown. Great broth, well carmelized onions 
and not too much salt. We later spoke to the owner and it turns out his son 
is the chef, and they DO roast the beef bones to make the stock (over 300 
pounds of beef bones a week he says) and boy it sure came through in the 
soup! For her Entree Anne chose a pepper encrusted pork tenderloin with 
some sort of mashed potatoes, she ordered it "not too much pepper" and it 
came with a mere speckle or two (just the way she'd like it) the loin was 
nicely seared on the outside and cooked moist and tender medium inside. 
Quite good I thought. I ordered the Venison Tenderloin and it was wonderful! 
Seared nice and crispy on the outside and almost Ahi tuna rare in the middle 
and soooo tender it just melted in your mouth with barely any chewing at all. 
It came over jicama strips, roasted asparagus and radishes with a reduction 
of the beef stock as the sauce. VERY good!  For dessert Anne had 6 
chocolate truffles ( they were chocolate I knew she'd go for em) and I had 
the strawberry shortcake...Angel food "biscuits) with Whipped cream and 
fresh strawberries (sliced not macerated, a suprise for me) with a stawberry 
meringue wafer (quite good!) in the middle. Dinner was at a very relaxed 
pace...virtually tortoise like (grin) we arrived before 6pm and were seated 
immediately and still didn't get out of the place till after 8pm. The owner
says 
the menu changes very often as his son's ideas seem to hit him (grin) So the 
next time Michael comes out it's gonna be on the list of places we'll eat. It 
was as I said a bit pricey for the two of us drinks and tip included it came to

about $130.
