I get bulk spices in really big but cheap bags and then split them
into four portions for us, Ray, Raine and my SIL Sandra. The latest
score was a quart by volume of Thai Kaffir lime leaves from Kim's
the Viet guy for $1.99.

I don't like pre-flavoured coffees but sometimes do like adding my
own flavours when I make it. Vanilla, chocolate, rum etc. Better
quality that way.

Me too. Roslind is the gourmet coffee lover here. She is always
buying a variety of beans from all over the world. We currently
have: Trung Nguyen, Sumatran Mandheling, smoky Tanzanian, Columbian
Summit, Kenyan AA, Kona (very expensive!), Espresso, French Roast, a
local roaster's "Mountain blend #4" and the house blend from the
hoity-toity French restaurant's new store. Oh yeah, and Nabob for
guys like you and me.

Oh, and on the same shlf some Horlick's, a British malt powder for
making malted milk. That's another staple here.

And you call yourself a Guinea! Torani hazelnut syrup for adding to
coffee.

 -> aerosol oil pump for spritzing

 DS> I have never found one of these necessary, but they are very
 DS> popular.  Every one I've ever had has broken, so I gave up

I got a stainless steel one for Christmas a few years ago that gets
used at least three times daily. It keeps going and going. It's
wonderful for delivering a small amount of oil in an even coating.

 -> veg oils: canola and peanut

 DS> I buy plain, cheap "vegetable oil" at the bulk store for 3.99/gallon
                          
Probably corn and/or soy. Canola is Canada's cheap, neutral tasting oil.

 DS> Lard. Shortening.

Lard here; no shortening.

 DS> No other "porridges" because they are vomitous masses.

I like Red River. It's Canadian, not available where you live. A
mixture of cracked wheat, cracked rye and flax seed. The rye and the
flax give it some character.  I like 3 parts cornmeal, 1 part Red
River cause it adds pretty little dark speckles to the yellow mush.

 -> popcorn

 DS> Always.  Not microwave, loose grains to pop in a kettle.       

Of course! [g]                                                      

 DS> Ditto, except baked beans because I make my own.
 
I often make my own but like a quick emergency supply for when the
mood hits and I don't feel like waiting 24 hours.

 -> Campbell's tetrapak chicken and beef broth

 DS> I hate the taste of Campbell's chicken broth
 DS> and now I make all my own broths and stocks.

I prefer my own (doing a turkey carcass right now) but need a backup
